My friend is travelling South America and is currently in Buenos Aires , he doesn’t have to slightest clue about football but he’s visited Boca’s stadium and grabbed a shirt for the memory. The shirt happens to have ‘Barco’ on the back. He’s coming.

Boca selling him to Brighton with a sell on percentage fee included would mean they could end up getting two decent pay days. (Just like Caicedo's club did).
Whereas if Boca sell him to Man City the chances of him being sold on for a big fee are probably less as they would likely keep him long term.

But Barco has a release clause, so if all the clubs interested activate that it doesn't really matter what's in Boca's best interest.

Comes down to whether he is willing to sacrifice short term earnings for play time.

I’d suggest that this one isn’t going to happen… it’s got Kudus noises written all over it, we’re being used and we’re going to have to get used to it 😭

Hey ho, he’s no Kerry Mayo anyway.
I see it the opposite way. I think Albion will have been trailing Barco for a year or so, I think we deliberately didn't buy another left-back in the summer because we had our sights set on this guy, and we bought Igor and Milner partly to provide some insurance at left-back for the short-term knowing could they could slot in elsewhere as and when Barco arrives in January.

The club could not have expected both Estupinan and March to have suffered bad injuries, so I expect them to doubling down their efforts so as not to miss out on Barco. It would be very helpful to us if - having docked Everton points - the Prem now charge City and dock them big points.

All wishful thinking perhaps, but given what has happened to Caicedo and MacAllister, and looking at the 1st XI opportunities youngsters like Buonanotte, Enciso, Sarmiento and Ferguson have had you've got to think the Albion move makes a lot of sense.

I don’t disagree and hope you’re right, as clearly we’re in dire need in terms of FB/WB cover :/

Think you are right and one thing we know is we would have been speaking to this guy for ages for all the other clubs linked my suspicion is this is all but done and will be quickly tied up in Jan.

Exactly. We're a far more attractive proposition than many on here are giving credit. We can offer a direct route into the first team and, even if Pervis comes back relatively early, there's a decent prospect of him living in the summer, thus opening up a route to the LB spot for Barco (provided he performs). Even outside of that, I gather Barco is more flexible, and can play higher up the pitch, which opens up further opportunities.
If he really wants to go to City but is willing to allow us to be his stepping-stone to City, he/his agent could even insist on a release clause to them in the contract he signs with us. All of that looks more appealing than The Sun report of buying him and a loan to Leicester.

I read that if they sign him, City will loan him out to Leicester, because their coach is a mate of Pep

OK, huge caveat, this isn't my money.

But is there any prospect of us beating the release clause before our transfer window opens (for example now)?

The logic being, if he's the player we think he is, he's probably worth more than the clause. In January there may be a bidding war. Is it just possible we could get the jump on other teams? As we did with Facu? The Argentina league is just finishing. We'd be making a statement to selling club and player. Crucially we could get him playing at the start of Jan, before we lose a load of players to tournaments.

I hope we can get this one over the line but it’s going to be really tough to beat off City if they are genuinely interested.
I hope we have other irons in the fire as a full back addition is critical.

I'd like to see us sign two to be honest.

March is a winger and is going to be out for a long time. Lamptey, I love but has a terrible injury record. Veltman is also terrific, but if he plays every game, we're taking a big risk.

Even after Pervis regains full fitness we'll need to rotate from time to time

Milner is getting exposed more often than a flasher

Writing that, I wouldn't be too sorry to see us sign 3 specialist full backs

I think we certainly need two in January, for the reasons you've outlined. I suspect we'll get one though.
