This is an earlier tweet from that Journalist’s account:

“From the player's environment they want BOCA to keep a % in a future sale. The player does not want to leave because of the clause. That is to say, Boca would continue to have part of the pass in case of
come to this agreement. No offer yet.”

Guessing that a future sale clause would be better had with us than City?

Does seem strange not to offer the release clause. No truth in Man City's bid presumably.
It’s probably a statement to the market as we’ve just made a British record sale. It’s business as usual no loose spending.

Just going back through some old articles, I see Man City were tracking him in 2021. So they may have had a head start. But I'm sure we know all the key people at Boca (thanks to Alexis' dad, and Alexis himself). Fingers crossed - he looks a decent player!

South American clubs and especially Brazilian ones have been known to have domestic club release clause and International club release clause separately or only one or other. Could be where a couple of different values come in?

Puzzled - why would the player object to a sell-on clause?

I think something has been lost in translation somewhere as the first bit (From the player's environment they want BOCA to keep a % in a future sale) can be read as the player is keen to see Boca have a sell on clause.

A deal like this, we should say to Man City 'back off and we give you first refusal'.
They know the player is going to be well coached and if we do sell him they get first dibs.
Decent sell on for Boca, six month loan until Christmas. Win win.

Effectively he doesn’t want to leave by another club paying the release clause as it means he leaves and Boca don’t benefit in the future. He wants to leave via a ‘normal’ deal, not a release clause. A deal whereby a sell on fee can be included so that Boca can benefit in future like Caicedo’s old club have now.

I’m guessing that’s why we offered below the release clause because we’ve probably included a sell on % in our offer.

Boca are an absolutely gigantic club in South America, he’s more than likely a Boca fan and wants to protect their best interests long term. Which does sound like he passes the no dickhead policy.

Makes him sound exactly like the kind of player we want here. And with the Mac links etc this has to look promising. The next week could be very interesting. If we get two or three of these youngsters in its basically been a perfect window and sets us up superbly for this season.

It isn't beyond the realms of possibility that other clubs will actually wait and see who we are interested in then have a look themselves, the money they save on recruitment and scouting for themselves would be a huge amount of lolly.
The days of sending out a team of people to check out a Garth Crooks team of the week player are long gone, and Gary Goals may as well hang up his golden boots.

Won't work. The club will just release a name of a non target as a distraction and get on with their business quietly as it has been in the past.

Thing is we would have the background to any deal, who has an interest financially and so on. We have proven we get deals over the line. Someone coming in on our backs are unlikely to be able to deal quickly.

We shouldn't forget our ability to get the deals done.

That plan - waiting to see who Brighton are trying to sign and go in and gazump them by bidding a couple of £M more and offering bigger wages - has already been suggested by several pundits on various outlets. Talksport for one. Makes a lot of sense - unfortunately!

Bringing them in is just part of it. It's what you do with the new recruits that really counts.

Another club might gazump us on our targets but will they be able to embed them in the same way?
