Your son is right defensively, his positioning is awful and for their second (admittedly I haven’t seen it again) I thought he could have done a lot better.

But going forward he certainly seems very capable. He did tire towards the end and did have a few attempts which didn’t beat first man but his first 40 minutes or so were decent enough
Admittedly, he is usually the first to be subbed off in my Brighton FM24 matches for stamina reasons!

Barco has been called up to the Argentina squad for friendlies against Ecuador and Guatemala. The 29 man squad will then be reduced 26 for the Copa America. Good chance for Barco to get himself into the Copa squad if he trains well and gets some game time to show what he can do.

Facundo hasn’t been called up so I expect he’ll be in the U23s squad for the Olympics.

Anyone seen any explanation for why Hinshelwood started insted of Barco on Saturday? Sick? Knock? Tactical? Could be that JH was just considered the more physical / defensive option, but I haven't seen the question asked.

There were unsubstantiated rumours that he had a knock. If so, would he have been on the bench?

I reckon they thought Jack's greater physicality was necessary against Dyche-ball

I think Hinshelwood is so good, he really does need to be in the team in every game. In terms of where to put him, I'd want him in Central Midfield as soon as possible. But for the time being, if the coaches feel there is value blooding him at full back on either side, I'm all for it. The balance and sheer attacking flair of Barco left back and Hinshelwood right back would blow our minds too much, too soon.

Exactly my thoughts, I think he'll make changes based on the style/physicality/tactics of the oppo.

Nothing explicit, perhaps the closest I've heard is in Milner's interview (from c5mins in) who mentions the importance of 'winning the battles against Everton'. For defenders, especially, that's going to entail in the air, and it was very noticeable that Everton used the long diagonal to Harrison as a key tactic. I think Hinsh is better than Barco in the air, and this might be the reason why he was preferred in this game -- but it's only a theory.

Tend to think that it was a ‘horses for courses’ decision to play JH at left back. I expect that Dyche had been watching our pre season games and thought he’d target our left back as he was ‘small’.
Last year at Goodson he had targeted our right side.
Good to see that Fabian can be tactically flexible in dealing with threats.
I wouldn’t say that JH is a great defender but he doesn’t ever give up in terms of the physical battle and can run and run.
