no contest ...

just had the most odd conversation with Mrs OTLW that I have had in the entire time we have been married ....

She rang to say she had been offered tickets for the Exec box at the Stadium of Shite next weekend to see Sunderland v West Ham. She thought I would be keen to go to see Zamora play and we'd also get an Exec lunch etc etc. Nice of her to think of me that way.

But I explained I was off to Vale Park to watch the Albion against Port Vale.

Where is Port Vale? she asked

near Stoke on Trent. I replied

So you'd rather travel 200 miles to a grot-hole like Stoke and stand in the rain to watch a Division 2 match, which Brighton will probably lose, than come with me, be wined and dined and have a chance to meet Bobby Zamora ... she replied in so many words.

Yes, I answered gob-smacked!

At which point she put the phone down

I think there could a small domestic tonight!!!!

She clearly doesn't get it. My missus has learnt now that when it comes to football nothing takes presedence over the albion.

Not sure if it would help, but my Sunderland supporting colleague wonders if he could have your wife's phone number.

I had a similar thing last year on my 21st, trying to explain to my now ex mrs why I would rather travel down south to watch Brighton away at palace instead of stay over in a swish hotel with her....hmm..cant imagine why.

Be interesting to see whether Lush agrees, as she still has the avatar of a player who has had two clubs since us :D

Hope you pointed out that the away end at Vale Park is vast, all-seated, and roofed, so chances of getting wet are 100% less than at Withdean!!

:lolol:

I don't envy you that one but you have made the right choice you don't get to sing, have confetti of yellow pages and ballons thrown in an exec box.

Um er um er ..... I'll ask her ... she's a journalist at the Sunderland Echo and tends to get these freebies quite often ... but will have to test the water tonight after our telephone conversation this morning!!!!

I didn't know they even had executive boxes at the Stadium of Shite. What's the difference from the rest of the ground - do they issue you with your own pair of shoes when you arrive or something? Or do you get a special ticket that's valid for the full 90 minutes, so you don't have to leave with 20 minutes left?

It's really quite posh for the heathens ... but very high up and like watching a match from a gallery of a helicopter ... the last match I went to with the Missus there, there were more empty red seats than supporters at the match and the so-called Sunderland roar would have been eclipsed by our lot, if we had been there!!
