His musical history as a solo artist features some non-hits that are superb.
"From a Whisper To a Scream",
A cool version of "Pressure Drop"
"Johnny and Mary", "Looking For Clues"
and the more obvious "Every Kinda People" which in my opinion rates as one of the best soul tracks of all time.
All subjective though, to musical taste.

I saw him play with Vinegar Joe at the Ali Pali. There was a festival in August 1973, the days I went were headed by TYA, and Wishbone Ash on another night.
There were some quality lower-division bands there too, notably Glenn Cornick's Wild Turkey (awesome twin lead duelling guitarists), and Silverhead. I can't say I remember much about the songs but I payed attention to VG because Elkie Brooks was getting raunchy and belting it out on the mic - hard not to notice them due to that.

His Little Feat were on the same bill with The WHO (put the boot in) at Charlton in 1976 too - might have been around the same sort of time they recorded with Rob Palmer?

Listening to Queen's "Night at the opera last night" my other half reminded me of a little known fact that I have known for years which is the first song on side 2 - the Prophet Song is a million times better that Bohemian rhapsody, better vocals, better harmonies better guitar, better 'opera'.

Sneakin' Sally thru the Alley was released in 1974, there was a lot of input from legendary backing band The Meters on it too. 1974 was the year that Little Feat released "Feat's don't fail me now" a lot of slide guitar. The Who who starred on that bill at The Valley wanted Little Feat as although they were relatively unknown they we highly regraded by fellow musicians, the Who and The Stones were amongst their fans. An unusual sound that I have never heard since. Mind you they were quite different on the first two Albums both being Country Blues whereas what followed was a lot more funk orientated. Little Feat got their name from Frank Zappa (George had been a side man in the Mothers as had Feat drummer Richie Hayward). Zappa pointed at George's feet and said 'little feet' and laughed, the name game from there. Feat's album covers were always unusual as they were done by Van Dyck Parks.
