Because (at risk of stating the bleeding obvious) it's perfectly possible to believe that murderers should die while still believing that it's wrong to kill babies.

The fundamental question in abortion rights is NOT whether it's OK to kill babies, because no-one believes that it is. The question is whether the unborn entity really is a baby, or whether it's something else.
Not when the pro-life argument is based on sanctity of life. If you believe that life is a God-given right then you can't argue in favour of the death penalty.

On NSC for over two decades...
The real tragedy is that some of the laws being introduced at state level don't allow for medical exceptions. This won't protect unborn babies or their mothers.

For example I know of a case where a couple were expecting twins and they had to make the heartbreaking decision to have one of them terminated as if they hadn't neither child would have survived.

Gay marriage rights and right to access contraception up for revoking by the Supreme Court in August. I mean, wow. Some giant steps backwards.
Expect riots.
Every great country has its " Time " as we did once, the US began its current slide backwards and downwards when party politics became a fracture dividing Republicans and Democrats that cannot be bridged. The US has tied itself in knots over interpreting a constitution that now, due to the passage of time, not fit for purpose.

As mentioned above, welcome to Gilead.

There's a fukken load of cranks over the pond. Kindred spirits with the mentalists in the middle east.

A terrible regressive step which looks like it might not be in isolation.

Europe is lovely place.

Aside from those parts of Europe (albeit relatively small) that have the same prohibitive abortion policy no?

And don’t forget the mentalists in Latin America……….papist shills that they are there.

Yanks are obsessed with controlling people’s bodies. Especially women’s.

It is frighteningly ludicrous that the right to abortion, birth control or same sex marriage is even being questioned in the year 2022!

We are entering some kind of facisistic puritan age. It’s shocking. Really.

Yep. I kept half an eye on the excellent liberal judges, notably the incredible human being Ruth Ginsburg. It was highly likely that Trump/the Alt Right/weirdos were going to get lucky and they did.

I wonder if it’s the worst political system amongst ‘democracies’? The Electoral College is set in stone, giving undue weight to half a dozen swing states. The all important politicised Supreme Court can set a biased tone for literally decades. Stringent voter ID checks brought in and registration red tape in some southern states have created hurdles for millions of the poor and blacks. All deliberate, the demographic change with the rise of black and Hispanic numbers, frightens the Right. A 50% GOP Senate (elected by the aforementioned manipulations) can spend literally 2 or 4 years blocking every non-routine bill from an Executive and they do. The House committees have in the last 20 years become silly grandstanding events, with Congressmen bullying witnesses purely on party political grounds. Far right **** Jim Jordan the worst example.

Other western democracies, to my limited knowledge, allow for clean sweeps at a GE, which we do see.

In your rush to racialise the politics of left and right so that white is right, and the Hispanic/blacks are left…….in this case, if I understand it correctly:

The only black judge on the US supreme court supported the amendment?
Black Christians (especially in the south) in the US are not more progressive than their white church going counterparts?
Hispanics in the US and those arriving from deeply Catholic countries like Mexico, Honduras and El Salvador (where this policy exists) are far more likely to agree with this judgement than disagree.

The values of these new Hispanic Americans in particular are far likely to be conservative with their religious background, in exactly the same way as their deeply religious peers from the Middle East.

We know that full well in this country…….if you don’t believe me why don't you check out what your local mosque is doing for pride month? Do you think their madrassas have invited any drag queens in to read the young uns the Koran?

What do you reckon?

A sizeable section of wealthy influential old white yanks are obsessed with controlling people's bodies.

I disagree. I’ve seen quite a few employment contracts for US companies. Always sections about using their doctors, their approved medication etc.

Well, that’s my opinion from what I’ve seen. But I know what you’re saying.

Yeah.
I see that kind of influence as dripping down from the very top, either directly from the elite I mentioned, or as a result of being scared of the backlash from those funded by the elite.

Unsurprisingly most, if not all, of my American reference points are up in arms about this and guns.
But as is the way with us wishy washy liberals (small c conservatives in their case) we only complain after the event.

America: Pro-Life until you're born, pro-Freedom until you disagree.

This is an unequivocal disgrace and just goes to show that you're never far from a step back to the dark ages. With all the law "reforms" banning protest, binning the Human Rights act and sending asylum seekers to Rwanda, we as a country should take note as to where a Trumpian government can lead.
Well put - look at what is happening in ‘our name’. The rise of populism, the destruction of collectivism, the lack of morality in our governments really matters. Votes matter.

Donald Trump's real victory.

Seems to me that Trumps real victories so far are staying out of prison and making money from the Presidency.

So glad I’m not American. Screwed up country if ever there was one.

Cant mandate for masks, but can mandate against abortion.
Cant mandate against guns, but can mandate against abortion .......

Silly old bat
Imagine the people in the clinics having to make the phone calls to women cancelling their appointments. Awful.

Imagine being 8 or 9 weeks into a pregnancy and being told it is ectopic, knowing you will die when the fallopian tube bursts.

This is just horrific, and another sign that we need to be distancing ourselves from America, which has become something broken and revolting.

I cannot believe the size of the gap between their rhetoric and their actions. Land of the free indeed.

WTF is happening to one of the most powerful countries in the world!?
I read and watch USA News most days, the past few years have been simply mind bogglingly bizarre.

Their insular "USA USA" mindset is coming back to bite them.
