Upheavals at Lewes FC

Word on the street is that the Rooks are being taken over by a Brighton-based consortium, who will install their own manager (a "name", but with no experience of football management) to replace Steve King.

Mr King is reported to be "not happy".

There's a bit of speculation about this on the Rooks' forum, but it's mostly disbelief.

I'm inclined to believe that the story is TRUE. But what do I know?

Discuss Lewes FC - Steve King??

King refutes 'fired' rumours

Published Date: 25 April 2008
By Brian Pollard

STEVE King today spoke to the Sussex Express to refute gossip that he had been fired as boss of Lewes Football Club.

Rumours had abounded that the Rooks manager had been relieved of his duties just a day before the Dripping Pan outfit was due to receive the Blue Square South championship trophy after the game against Weston-super-Mare.

The rumours has even reached the BBC Sport website where, on their '606' forum, under the headline "Misery' for Lewes boss King?" it read, "According to news rumours filtering in this afternoon.

"Stephen King, (LEWES) the Conference South Champions manager, has been sacked by a consortium, this after the Rooks had just won the title.

"King was, of course, out of contract and was desperate to manage at Conference Premiership level."

But King today told Express Sport, "I can confirm that I HAVEN'T been fired and that I will be at the game as Lewes FC manager against Weston-super-Mare tomorrow."

A club source said. "We can neither confirm or deny the rumours."

"We can neither confirm or deny the rumours." A curious phrase that suggests to me that the rumours of his departure are true.

Or go broke, because you can't afford Conference football, without investment.

And the investors want their man in charge.

Who wants Lewes FC to go skint?

London Irish Limited????

Don't tell me he's going to announce a major coup and produce McGhee?

Way out west
...so maybe talk of those three joining Whitehawk was a smokescreen, but not a million miles from the truth?

I hope they get investment, but it does come at a price and I don't mean just Harveys.

The ground needs loads of work, I hope they are the 2nd Sussex team in the League, cos I really hate Crawley.

Erm, why?

Try asking all the senior players and management/coaching staff over the years what they think of him and the role he has played. I've never actually heard anyone give a decent or educated reason why he shouldn't be there.

Anyway, genuinely amazed at the news about Steve King. God knows how he's feeling now?

Argus are reporting that the consortium alledgedly involves Albion commercial manager Kevin Keehan, who's supposed to be leaving the club.

Isn't he a nephew or son-in-law of Dick Knight, or am I thinking of someone else?
