I think he'd be a great player for a side like Brighton ie a good passing side whose pitch isn't a mess.

He's been our player of the season so far. He can drift in and out of games but he's improved massively this season and is very creative.

Charlton manager Chris Powell has told homesick midfielder Dale Stephens he can leave the club if the right offer comes in.

Stephens, who is set to replace injured captain Johnnie Jackson at Barnsley on Saturday, wants to move closer to his family in the north.

"It's a hard one with Dale because he had the disappointment of not moving in the transfer window this time last year," said Powell.

"He got on with it and I'm mindful of the fact that he has suffered a little bit with homesickness. We have had discussions with him that if anything transpires that might be right for him to go back up north then we'll look at it.

"But if he's here, as I've always said, if they're fit then they are under consideration regardless of their situation.

"We've had that discussion with him but, of course, it takes a club to pick up the phone and if nobody does, he's here. We've had no real interest from northern clubs and we just have to play it by ear and see if anyone comes in. If they don't he'll have to stay fit and, like any footballer, he will play here."

Linked with a move to Stoke City rumour. Cleared off the line from Ulloa.

He scores and misses goals as well. Initially, he seems like a good choice.

The SKY report refers to a bid turned down for Carayole as if they are linked but besidws no-one at Boro seeming to know of any bid from us these are two very different types of player. Stephens would be a direct replacement for the loss of Crofts - maybe more mobile but likely to score less goals.

Could very much do worse - I was really suepriswd Stains didnt sign him when they went up. Has the potential to contribute at both levels IMO

This article from 2012 is quite interesting and compares him favourably to Liam Bridcutt. However, it also says Abdul Razak could be a "world-class" midfielder, so I'll take it with a pinch of salt.

Stephens almost never fails to find his man with a pass, he is the key to Charlton’s ticking over of possession. He picks it up from defence and moves it on. If Stephens is on form then Charlton will enjoy their fair share of opposition, no matter the opposition. Stephens, who is best operating from deep in the quarter-back role, is the first instigator of nearly all of Charlton’s meaningful attacks.

Cheers Unc, so he's rated by those that are in the know and is is most probably Bridcutts replacement. Sounds a better prospect than Shaun Williams, get Stephens in, Conway and Carayol and if we're really lucky a defender and I'd say we're looking good.

If other clubs want to screw around while FFP is in place that is their problem. Eventually it will come back to bite them.
When it is seen so many other clubs have broken these FFP rules, we will then have a case against them.

Some supporters of other clubs are going to be in tears if their team doesn't make it, and those accounts are released. You know it makes sense in the long term.

It's worth remembering that Jesus Navas used to get so homesick he couldn't travel on International duty. He seems ok now.

Agreed, but ONLY if the punishments are severe enough to affect the clubs in signing players in the future and getting promotion. It needs points deductions and fines. Nobody knows what the punishments will be. Therefore alot of clubs are banking on the fact that it will be a toothless punishments. I fear they might be right.
