When MP went to sound out Falmer Parish Council about the hotel development he was assured they'd be no objection.

He also had to assure them the hotel would in no way block their view of the stadium.

I have absolutely no idea how Perry didn't go batshit killing spree crazy and take out all the head mentals with his bare hands.

Seeing as we no longer have Bennett's Car Park Field I doubt this will come to anything...unless Barber can renew the lease.

Well, I'd assume the Albion would have some sort of contingency for this in their application. Otherwise it would all seem a tad pointless.

The first few rows of parking in Bennett's field have been in use all season because that part is not owned by the people with whom the club could not come to an agreement. This is also the bit on which the proposed hotel would be built.

That's one of the funniest things I've heard so far this year!

It's right up there with Bat-Vehicle Collisions in the list of Great Planning Jokes

I think Perry said 'he didn't know whether to laugh or cry', when they told him.

I still maintain the third option is the only logical action that he could have taken.

This.

Surely it's a joke?
I'm going to say he said it on 'Roar'.

If that is the case maybe The Large One can confirm it.

If it wasn't Roar I might have to backtrack, as I can't think where else I've heard MP speak.

The whole lot was being used on Sunday so can only assume some agreement has been reached

Interesting to see an 'External Concourse' for the East stand as well. This looks extra to what I think exists today?

No. The external concourse is the walkway/road around the stadium.

Hang on a cotton pickin minute. I seem to recall huge denials when falmer residents said that there would be a hotel built on the site......fans abusing everyone who even suggested it!

Ooooops

In fact didn't obergruppenfuhrer perry dismiss the idea

I feel quite bad about all this, Granny. Every time this accusation was thrown at us by the anti-Falmer brigade during those war years I'd dismiss it as NIMBY lies and argue over and over that it was not our intention to build a hotel there. The club simply needed a new home. I kind of feel as though I've been lied to myself, now.

I can see this being entirely commercially viable. As an exile I often come to stay in Brighton for matches and hotel accommodation can be difficult. It's only 10 minutes outside the City, so at the right price it will do ok for the general travellors as well. However one thing no one has commented in is that the Universities may bring a lot of business. I work for a major university and stay close to other Universities regularly. There is also a major potential conference trade which could even use catering at the ground for events. Looks like a winner to me.

It was denied by everybody within the planning application war department. Surely the club didn't lie to us?

I don't quite understand some people's anxiety about the club appearing not to be honest about potential plans for a hotel. If reference to it in the original planning application would have meant that the whole scheme would have been thrown out then who would have been happy with that? The club, and fans, were up against it to get the go ahead in the first place and only and idiot would have said we are planning massive more developments in the area once the stadium is built. Also, the club may well have been honest about the hotel at the planning stage but it seems clear that once we moved into the Amex, running costs were more than originally anticipated so they need to do something to make the business more sustainable.

I'd have thought parents / relatives visiting kids at both uni would be a market too.

They will have to price it below city centre options though in my eyes as convenience is only one of many factors
