I think we're all agreed it is a fvckin' nuisance, but does anybody know yet if Alzate and Mac are being hoiked off the South America (with no elite sport exemption on quarantine on return)?
Ditto Biss - will he be going to Mali (no idea what the quarantine rules for there are), and are any of the others being summoned to go and risk catching Covid in Europe?
Can we refuse to let them go - and if we can, should we? Would it be worth, say, a few thousand quid fine if we defy FIFA/UEFA?

We’re trying to recover from a global pandemic and football wants to send a load of players flying around the world to play in some tin pot international games. Utter joke.

Hopefully our club will talk to the players and politely remove them from international duties if needed.

On Feb 5th it was announced that FIFA had extended the ruling allowing players to be excused from international call ups if they were to be subject to an isolation period of 5 days or more at any part of their journey. So looks as though we'd be able to stop Mac Allister and Alzate from travelling. We might not be able to stop Biss though as Mali isn't on the red list of 33 countries and neither is Guinea who they play away over the break, I suppose it would depend on where he had to travel via etc and what if any restrictions there are on arrivals from the UK on his route out.

Certainly agree about it being an utter joke that international football is even being considered right now. Having European games is proving problematic enough with the travel restrictions.

Reading the guidance he would probably only need to do 5 days quarantine then can do the release scheme if not coming from a red listed country

I'm not 100% sure but there must still be some exceptions for elite sports people providing they are not travelling from one of the red list countries. Liverpool traveled to Hungary mid week and haven't had to isolate on return, same for Arsenal, Leicester, Spurs and Man Utd who all had away games in the Europa League on Thursday.

Guinea is battling it's worst Ebola outbreak for 5 years. Mali is putting special border measures in place to try and keep it out. I'm guessing TB and PB will try and stop our players travelling.
