The manufacturing sector are crying out for Young Engineers as the apprenticeship schemes really stopped.Any "good" degree (don't do Media or Sports Science) will be worth it.

Apprenticeship schemes for engineering haven't stopped, I'm in my second year of one and my cousin has just started one. You just need to know where to look

In my local area there used to be ten or more companies with apprentice schools of 20-30 a year. Most now don't offer the full 3+ year course to any more than 1 or 2 a year.

I did my HND Mech Eng 20 years ago and then there where only 12 students in the year.

As a graduate still wet behind the ears I face applying for the same jobs in admin my mates were applying to when we left college with A Levels. I don't regret going to uni, I'm sure my degree will come good one day, not sure I'd do it again though looking at my gloomy financial situation.

They might not be as common as they used to be, but they are still about. The govenment offer massive incentives for companies to take them on, and as i said me and my cousin are both doing a 3 year course
