I do remember in the Championship the never ending lauding of our recruitment team. The only duffer we caught for about 3 seasons was Elvis Manu.
I'd agree that the only two real big money flops have been Jahanbakhsh and Locadia. Izquierdo and Andone have been hit and miss, but I would like to see what they can do in a less defence focused side.
Mainly hoping that with Ashworth (and Potter...?) we might see one or two young British talents come in, or God forbid... one of our own U23s get given a go!
I wouldn't even bet against the possibility of Locadia and Jahanbaksh coming good under a different regime. Who knows?
Bernardo - A top 10 quality RB
Err...
Ashley Barnes, Callum Wilson, Josh King, Glenn Murray.Normally more of a browser than a poster on here but I have had enough of people criticising our recruitment team over the last 24 hours.
Pascal Gross - £2.7 Million (Probably worth £15-20 million)
Maty Ryan - £5.4 million (Probably worth £10-15 million)
Propper - People were saying is the most skilled player in our squad two months ago
Bissouma - We all know how good he can/could be
Bernardo - A top 10 quality RB
Andone - I honestly don't understand the critisicm of, unfair to judge until had a run of games against mid table opposition with an actual CAM playing
IMO the only players that haven't been impressive are Jahanbaksh and Locadia who were both playing in their own third for the majority.
Also we were all begging the recruitment team to sign a striker in January 2018 and they had to sign one simply to keep the fans on their side. They went for Locadia who I can't remember the last time he played as number 9. Can anyone actually name a striker aside from Rondon and perhaps Mitrovic who has been a consistent striker for a bottom half premier league team?
Jahanbaksh is therefore the only player I can really see who has flopped and he put in a MOTM performance against this Ajax team last year. Leicester who signed Kante and Vardy were also going for him.
If anything the mistakes in Jahanbaksh and possibly Locadia are most certainly out weighed by the positives.
I agree and have found it absurd that the recruitment is taking a bash here considering it was only Christmas we saw locadia scoring goals and we're lauding the current team for barely having a miss, i think schelotto was the only one we said hadn't worked out at that time...
And now it's suddenly their fault...
Knockaert, followed by Duffy and Murray got us up. Ryan, Gross, Propper and Izquierdo helped keep us up. Bernardo, Andone, Bissouma and Montoya were seen as quality additions to a squad heading for mid table...... and then the wheels fell off. I can't see how recruitment is to blame at all

Re-writing history. We couldn't get a LB for three seasons in a row having to make do with loans (albeit very good loans) and who could forget Holla, O'Grady, Dobbie and other duffers.
I admittedly forgot Wilson but Barnes, King and Murray are all gonna have a month where they score 5 goals and then two months of nothing. Consistent strikers are just incredibly rare and need to be played in a system which suits them. Look at how Rondon and Perez are flourishing at Newcastle
I’m all honesty, you’re searching for a unicorn. Both Aguero and Salah has spells of 8 games without goals this season, it happens to the best.
Some are saying the recruitment department hasn't brought in quality players, while others have said Hughton didn't get the best out of the players bought by playing defensive football. Isn't it the job of someone, somewhere, to make sure the vision/style of the manager is in line with the players being scouted and signed?

Basically I think Murray got in the way of Ali J and Locadia (and Adone, to a large extent). Hughton only ever trusted Murray as his CF, and as we all very well know, there is only ever room for ONE CF in Hughton's team.
Personally I'd have liked to have seen two up top, certainly at home. I think a Murray / Andone combo could have been quite a handful, especially if our wide players were allowed some leave from fullback duty occasionally. With Murray approaching 53 now, Jahanbakhsh or Locadia down the middle with Andone might have been the natural progression we were looking for. Maybe thats how TB saw it, rather than the continued reliance on Murray, and the expensive new boys playing out of position in order to accommodate him.
With Ali J in particular it'd be interesting to see what he's got, given a run in his preferred position. Nobody can say he's looked up to it so far, but we'd be writing off an expensive acquisition if we never see him down the middle. He's got another 4 years, so we might as well.
