midnight run is brillant:thumbsup:

Sequel is on the way with Deniro :

Eighties crime comedy Midnight Run is to receive the sequel treatment over at Universal.

The studio have hired screenwriter Tim Dowling to scribble a follow-up to the celebrated flick.

Deadline Hollywood report that Robert De Niro will return to the role of Jack Walsh, an ex-cop-turned-bounty hunter, while co-star Charles Grodin (yeah, him off Beethoven) won’t be coming back (he’s only made one film since 1994).

Plot details are under wraps, but apparently the story would involve Walsh “bringing in a new fugitive”.

Dowling also wrote the not-awful Role Models, and has a story credit on George Lucas In Love. There's no director attached yet.

Could this be a terrible move for both Universal and De Niro? The original Run was a hit back in the ‘80s, boasting a great script and brilliant chemistry between De Niro and Grodin. But why a sequel now, especially after a string of feeble TV follow-ups?

Taxi Driver Remake News
By: Martyn Conterio

de niroReports are coming out of the Berlin Film Festival suggesting Martin Scorsese and Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier are teaming up for a remake of Taxi Driver – starring Robert De Niro. Is this total nonsense or is there something concrete to this? According to Danish film magazine, Ekko, says it is more than just a rumour and it’s being discussed.Trier’s producing partner, Peter Aalbak, has told people an official announcement would be coming shortly.

Directors remaking their own films is nothing new at all. But what’s the point in remaking Taxi Driver? Does it need to have a point? Wasn’t Scorsese’s original barking mad enough? Although, as I’ve said before, Trier is one of the most Catholic filmmakers out there, so this could right up his street. Plus, there’s the thrill of watching Trier take a classic film and destroy it before the audiences eyes.

Maybe it’s film festival madness at work and this really is a load of old rubbish, but until THAT “official announcement” is made, we can only wait…and wonder.Scorsese. Trier. De Niro. It would look more than enticing on a poster, wouldn’t it? Scorsese and De Niro have down the years discussed a sequel for their landmark 1976 avenging angel flick, could this be it? What would Travis Bickle be up to in 2010? Probably running a kebab shop in Brooklyn. One can only speculate until it becomes something other than festival talk.

In the fevered hands of Trier, it would no doubt be a mix of the ridiculous and the sublime.
