If Gerrard had been some unknown at Rangers, no way would he have got the Villa job, regardless of his managerial success in that joke of a league. The media hype - ‘Liverpool manager in-waiting’ all added to the hot air surrounding him and Villa got suckered and bought into it. That said, not sure Emery will work out either.

I've a dislike of Villa based on 2 tossy Villa supporting acquaintances...

When one was bragging they were going to get the guy from Sporting ( 2.1 fav betting wise) I thought shit they've done well...

Now they've got Emery not so sure, though they could have got much worse

Seems a good choice. Must be better than Gerrard. I don’t think he at the level of managers like Potter and Howe though. A top ten finish is now possible with the amount of talent they have purchased.

The guy has won the Europa League FOUR times!!!!! More silverware than about 95% of managers out there. Qualla appointment
This! Also took tiny Villareal to the Champions League semi final last season which was an outstanding achievement. I suggest quite a few only know and judge him from Arsenal rather than watching other leagues and reading about his achievements elsewhere.

Quality appointment for Villa.

Agree. He followed Arsene Wenger ffs. Pretty good success rate all told but obviously not good enough for the North London tossers.

Think Villa have done well to get him imho.

If I were a Villa fan I’d take him over Gerrard and I fear it may have made our task of taking points off them much harder than it would have been if they’d stuck with Stevie G for another few games.

As to how he did at Arsenal, I seem to remember many Arsenal fans were literally screaming on AFC TV at least for Arteta to be sacked about this time last year, they are even more entitled than Villa fans.
You also won’t hear Pep Guardiola saying Emery will take the PL by storm. RDZ will come good, very good. But we must give him time.

Potter came good, RDZ will too.
TRUST IN TONY.
My post wasn’t a dig at RDZ more at a poster who said they wouldn’t want Emery anywhere near the Albion like we are some massive club not worthy of a European cup winner. But to your point about Pep they are good friends and sure he’s going to back him, he also used to praise Potter until we beat them wouldn’t take to much notice of him.

Seems like a good appointment to me. I don't think too much can be read into his time at Arsenal. He was only there for a year or so, wasn't great, wasn't terrible in terms of results although my Arsenal supporting mates hate him. He was taking over from Wenger so it was always going to be a tough job.

If I was a Villa fan I'd be looking at his overall record in Spain and would be pretty excited. Two promotions, including taking almeria to La Liga for the first time in their history, three consecutive Europa leagues with Sevilla, some (inevitable) trophies at PSG, a Europa league final with Arsenal and another Europa league win with Villareal. He also made the champions league semi final with Villareal.

I'd say it's comfortably a step up from Gerrard. There's always risk of course but he has a long history of success.
Totally agree , might not be the best but pretty decent record.

Achieved a hell of a lot more than potter and Howe in his career so far.

Yep. Excellent manager. Arsenal were in a post Wenger state when he was there. if they had back him in the same way they gave Arteta he’d have been a big success. Huge upgrade on ‘Stevie G’

The very poor cousin that you'd rip someones arm off to visit if so only for five minutes
I’ve never had any interest.

After 46 years of support, I’m happy with incremental steps for the Albion.

When Burnley, Everton et al had Thursday night campaigns, it ruined half or more of their EPL seasons. Wrecked players were taken apart on Sundays.

We haven’t got your new best mate Boehly to cheat our way to endless signings.

No, Brighton much funnier ways to progress. A European tournament at some point or another isn't out of the question.

Think a lot people would find that pretty nice

Worth a bounce - what a job he’s doing!

I expect both them and us to finish above dreadful Spurs and both into Europe.
Could be a big final day, would just love if all we both need is a draw to keep Spurs out of the 5th and 6th places and we play keep ball in the centre circle for 90mins.

Big celebrations for both sets of supporters and Brentford edge Spurs into 7th.

Then the following week we beat Sheffield Utd in the final

:ROFLMAO:
