Hang on...it's not all bad. He's only going to be crucified after they've beheaded him according to that article. Sounds like he's getting off lightly.

I'm sure he's chuffed to bits.

So, the crucifiction is the problem? Surely the beheading is the main concern of the intended victim? The rest is just the modern day equivalent of sticking a head on a stake.

To be fair, I'd probably put ................ Assad's Syria ahead but only by a whisker.

Only if you believe in the bullshit rhetoric. Saudi have been key in supporting the al-Nusra Front (sometimes called al-Qaeda), in their fight against Assad. Syria may be a regime that he inherited but it was a secular regime that could have become democratic in the future. Unlike the non secular regime of Saudi Arabia and its Wahabi heritage that ISIL have adopted.

so what you're saying is, suppressing, imprisoning, bombing your own people is ok, as long as you don't do so with a theocracy? and before you start about rhetoric, remember that the Syrian people rose up against Assad for good reasons, and a lot of those refugees are fleeing the Syrian regime (their testimony).

The same good citizens who want to wipe out his Alawite people ???

If he left when the West asked him to, the Alawites would have been slaughtered.

you are highlighting there are many fault lines of sectarianism in the region. don't let us pretend that Assad's ok, a nice bloke poorly represented. if we want to look at it one way, for those onside with the Saud family, life in Saudi Arabia is pretty decent.

For those onside with Assad, Syria was pretty decent too, and very good for Christians. He is bombing the areas where missiles are launched from, just like what Israel does. It's called slaughtering when he does it, for anyone else it is called collateral damage.

He has far more justification for defending himself and his people than Bush and Blair did attacking Iraq. If Assad is evil, then Bush & Blair are more so and it's the West who are pretending B&B are nice blokes.

Just like Blair always saying he "believed that what he did was right at the time" equally Assad can say the same.

Assad agreed to reform and democracy over a transitional period. We wanted him to leave immediately, endorsed an uprising because he didn't, and was almost promsing the rebels our support and weapons. This is no way to encourage democracy.

It won't matter to the rich and the royal family over there when the oil does run out. They've spread out from just the oil don't you worry.

When I was working there, I asked a Saudi what happens when the oil runs out. Minerals apparently. They havnt started to mine anything like that yet.
