Which ever fella on Roar called it right.

Ulloa is (hopefully was) a striker hideously out of form after his lay-off.
A consequence of that is he's chasing the ball trying to make things happen.
With an attacking unit returning to fitness and a couple of match winners, hopefully Leo will be happier to let the ball come to him.

Which is how I see it. He keeps coming deep to get the ball and for whatever reason his touch isn't there, and on several occasions all he achieved was putting us udner pressure.

He needs to work harder to get onside when the attack breaks down............. but what a great finish..........

Which seems like another way of saying this:

Ulloa - 6.5. Not the Ulloa we love, but excellent finish

which just so happens to be the OP's comment on the player ratings tonight thread

Did you just comment on your own post and refer to yourself as "the OP"...?!

He's getting better and better and the goals are going to be a big boost to his confidence. However, his first touch was poor and it concerns me that he may be training with CMS!!!!

I've been one of the people on here more notably critical of Leo since Christmas. FWIW I thought he was much better last night. Not full on Amazing like he can be, but much better than Saturday. Looked more alert, worked harder and a top finish. Touch need work, clearly.

If you thought he was awful yesterday goodness knows what you thought of him on Saturday!! He's not yet back to his best but he was showing encouraging signs last night. Agree with the bit about first touch and finish.

Player in shock lack of fitness after lengthy lay off

FFS folks, you play FM and think you know everything. Yes he's touch was about as subtle as an axe murderer last night, but it will come back the more he plays. As somone said, he's scoring goals, thats what he is paid to do.

AND I'd EXPECT him to be pissed off at being subbed, it shows he CARES.

Ok ERNEST mode switched to OFF

What's gender got to do with it?
Joking us fellas always reckon we are the experts on football. As regards Ulloa I thought that he looked more ' up for it' than he has at any time since his injury. One of his strong points in his early days was his ability to read the game and not be offside I am sure that with more matches this will return and he will be back to being a prolific scorer again, mind 2 in the last 2 games isnt bad if you consider it brought us 6 points.

Agreed maybe he was unsettled in the transfer window and coming back from injury. The guy knows where the goal is. Great finish last night, I thought it took a defection but having seen the reply was just a lovely finish.

I don't think he was pissed off at being subbed. He was exhausted and from my seat clearly signalled to the bench that he wanted to come off.

Once again, there seems to be no in-between with some posters on here, just pure black and white. Already tonight I've seen Stephens branded terrible, then it was Greer in other games, whereas LuaLua seems to be considered faultless by some on every occasion.

I thought Ulloa looked more interested tonight than he has been in other games, I think there were a couple of moments when his first touch was heavy, but then most of them did that at some stage during the match. Generally, he seemed a bit sharper to me, and in any case, if he's going to keep on scoring, then that's just fine by me.

This, with bells on.

Did you really not appreciate the work he put in against their centre halves? They barely had a ball to deal with that he wasn't challenging for. A few of his touches went astray, but there were also moments where he was bringing down and shielding hopeful clearances and retaining possession for the team. Their two centre halves had a significantly tougher day than ours did.

He wasn't his brilliant best, but he was far from awful. You need to appreciate the graft from players sometimes, not just the pretty stuff.

Well Edna, not so sure if this is the case, but if I've put a krab up your apple, my view is that Upson, Ward and Ince seem to do it every game. Not so sure I've turned against any player, or manager, but my point wasn't that, all of a sudden, Ulloa isn't our main man. He's scored four in three. He probably should be credited with three in three. He's enabled us to win two in two. We can only be excited about what he can do for the rest of the season. But, if asked, I think even he'd agree that tonight really was one of his poorer games, but that that really doesn't matter given that ...

Watching a different game to me, thought he was excellent first half. Faded a bit second half, but held the ball up well during that first period and brought others into the game, unlucky with his shot on the turn that was blocked too. Not his best, but a long way from awful...

I do agree with you about the graft, so this is a fair point. I'm certainly not of the view that he's not interested/looking for a move which many express here. What I was really saying is that his hold-up play wasn't is good as usual (and he even got a free kick from the ref last night, which is unusual), his lay-offs went astray all too frequently and his first touch even when not harassed by their centre-backs wasn't up to scratch and, on one occasion, he 'controlled' it by kicking it about ten yards away.
I was also trying to make the point that even for his goal his first touch wasn't that good, but the finish was simply sublime.
If you look at many of the comments on the player ratings, I'm by no means in a minority on this. But thanks for your post. I always like those posters that formulate an argument, rather than doing things like this:

He led the team in terms of pass completion last night (83 per cent).

Three shots, one on target, one goal.

Indeed. I seriously doubt some of those who are criticising his performance tonight have ever played as a central lone striker before or are just so ignorant of his role. Had it not have been for him, players like Rodriguez, March and others would not be able to get ahead of the play.

Last night was his best performance of the season and better than some last season, but alas people think he should have a golden touch and score at every chance. If he did, then he would not be playing for Brighton and Hove Albion.

I still cannot fathom why, aft an outstanding team performance last night people are bemoaning it.
