Round of 16 - Match FOUR

This might be too much for Fletch.

Blackadder (all series) - 1982-1999, 26 episodes

An absolute institution of a comedy. A bookies favourite pre-tournament. No further comment necessary.

Norman Stanley Fletcher, you have pleaded guilty to the charges brought by this court, and it is now my duty to pass sentence. You are an habitual criminal, who accepts arrest as an occupational hazard, and presumably accepts imprisonment in the same casual manner. We therefore feel constrained to commit you to the maximum term allowed for these offences: you will go to prison for five years.

This match will run for 7 days, to allow plenty of time for voting.

The nightmare draw for Porridge. Whilst it can hold its own against some of the other shows in the knockout stages, it has zero chance against Blackadder IMO.
Indeed. Would have been very interesting up against OFAH, but here it is going to be crushed.

Blackadder for the brilliance of the 2nd and 4th series but what a tussle, would have Porridge above almost all other contenders...

Pound for pound Porridge is the better comedy.
Consistently excellent, compared to the peaks and troughs from Blackadder
Ronnie Barker's comedic acting is at it's absolute peak.

But series 2 & 4 of Blackadder were also superb.

And where would you rate series 1?
The weakest of the series but still had its moments.

Porridge has never done anything for me. I guess it was before my time and whenever I've seen episodes repeated I've only found them mildly amusing. I think it's partly because I associate Ronnie Barker with The Two Ronnies which I really can't stand.

This. I don't get Porridge at all

Really enjoyed both. Like an FA cup draw where a team you fancy to go a long way suddenly ends up away at Man City in the last 16. Blackadder overall for me has the edge as much as I love and appreciate porridge

That's a shame. For me, the genius of Porridge was setting it in a prison and using that as a euphemism for life in general, with Fletcher savouring every little victory helping him get through his stretch. His protective 'father-son' relationship with his cellmate Godber - played by the late, great Richard Beckinsale - was TV gold, with both men able to switch effortlessly from comedy to pathos and back again.

It has to go to Blackadder here. Blackadder is a semi final team at minimum, Porridge should be a quarter final team but one hell of a tough draw. Weaker shows will progress ahead of Porridge

Sorry Fletch, I did my best.

(Blackadder is superb, but Porridge was better)

Oh I do love Porridge but it’s got to be Blackadder here for me. Genius.

Will never forget watching Blackadder Goes Forth for the first time in History in Year 11 at school. It broke me emotionally! I think that series hit home to me more than anything else they taught us about WW’s 1 and 2 for GCSE!

So many people echo this I think, including me.

"I'm scared, sir." - absolutely brutal.

A pounding from Edmund. Blackadder into the quarters.

4 R16 matches done, 4 to go.
