The Royle Family - 1998-2012, 25 episodes
An incredibly warm, earthy sitcom with tonnes of pathos. A brave decision at the time to write a sitcom basically about 4-6 very normal people sitting around doing nothing of an evening, but the tight dialogue and strong performances carried it through - in turn, TRF gave birth to the now reality TV juggernaut Gogglebox.
Suffered from a severe dip in writing towards the end, but would still hope to get through the group, given a fair wind.
Highly popular comedy from the Emerald Isle. Passed me by a little but I expect to see a strong showing here.
The black sheep of the competition, some have questioned the show's validity in a comedy setting. Whilst Shearsmith and Pemberton's comedic credentials cannot be questioned - see The League of Gentlemen, preparing for a tough Group C - is it enough to see them through this one? 50 episodes (with more on the way) is impressive, but is there enough great comedy contained within?
I can't pretend to know much about this one. You tell me - is it worthy of qualifying from this group?
Reminder - Two qualify from each group into the Round of 16. You have ONE vote per group, so use it wisely. Please feel free to link to relevant YouTube videos, or justify your chosen comedy in writing.
Each Group will run for 5 days, to allow plenty of time for voting.
