I am Sussex through and through for several generations with no Celtic or Gaelic blood in me.
I would love to be able to celebrate St George's day without being thought xenophobic or anthing to do with the right wing.
Why on earth would celebrating St Georges day make you have anything to do with the right wing?

MORRISSEY LYRICS

Irish Blood, English Heart

Irish blood, English heart, this I'm made of
There is no-one on earth I'm afraid of
And no regime can buy or sell me

I've been dreaming of a time when
To be English is not to be baneful
To be standing by the flag not feeling
Shameful, racist or partial

Irish blood, English heart, this I'm made of
There is no-one on earth I'm afraid of
And I will die with both my hands untied

I've been dreaming of a time when
The English are sick to death of Labour
And Tories, and spit upon the name of Oliver Cromwell
And denounce this royal line that still salute him
And will salute him forever

Yeah I don't give a shit, about being left or right wing, or xenophobic, I am just proud to be English and British.
And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
On England's pleasant pastures seen?

And did the Countenance Divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among these dark Satanic Mills?

Bring me my Bow of burning gold:
Bring me my Arrows of desire:
Bring me my Spear: O clouds unfold!
Bring me my Chariot of fire.

I shall not cease from Mental Fight
Nor shall my Sword sleep in my hand
Till we have built Jerusalem
In England's green & pleasant Land.

Back in Sussex
On Friday I will be a plastic Paddy with all my Irish friends in Cheltenham.

I will mainly be saying "Dat's da luck of da Oirish" to one and all.

I am 100% English. I'm in no way proud of it because as far as I'm concerned it's like saying I'm proud of being a human being. Why? its not like you have worked at it. It's like when they praise good looking people for being good looking, why praise someone because their genes make them aesthetically pleasing. I like England, the good parts of it are very dear to me but I must say I have never gone in for all this nationalistic fervour. All seems a bit forced to me.

However my experience of the Irish tells me that they are a bit cockish. Saying that that is only the ones I meet at Uni. They used to constantly tell us how shit England was, how shit the people are and how great Ireland is. So why come to university in England? God knows.

Personally couldn't give a monkeys left testicle about St Patricks Day. I'm English so why should I ? It's a constant annoyance to me that St Patricks Day is a bigger celebration in this country that St George's Day. Apart from possibly the good old USofA, I can't think of another country where their own national day is celebrated less than another country's.

So, St George was Turkish. What's your point?

I was joking

As goes it being our "national day"... it won't be anymore if the proposed april bank holiday goes ahead, as it will be "independence day" basically.

Inspired by the view of St Roches Hill (The Trundle) when Blake was visiting a lady friend at Gainsborough house. The very same view as from the back of my house.

Now, was there an option for Ulsterman in that poll. If I wasn't English then Welsh would be my next choice. Great place and great people (in the North anyway).
