I have said already that I accept that. It was in poor taste but I was testing BF's level of hypocrisy when he feels that he can insult others and then take offence when he is the butt. And hypocrisy he showed! But apologies to you, which odes without saying.

 Really HG stop digging. If you want to be the bloke that responds to a discussion on a forum by bring peoples family problems into it then so be it but at least have the balls to stand by it. I said that you had made yourself look a bit of a tit (and you are continuing to do so), hardly that insulting or abusive is it?

........ and for the record I wasn't offended, we have had to deal with too much ignorant bullshit over the years for comments like yours to upset me.

Can really see a perfect storm brewing in time for the UK's EU referendum.

Some may think the Germans taking 800k of migrants protects us from huge non-EU influx. Once they all right to remain in Europe they can all come here. Of course they won't but could really swell the numbers.

The EU need to act and act fast on the migrant crisis, a UK exit could be a catalyst to the whole EU project coming apart

I think this is the nub of it. We, and i suspect the other countries in Europe, are being railroaded into this superstate. It started a few years back when they tried to foist the EU flag on the countries, the EU number plates etc, now the rules that you have to abide to. You must do this, you must take these people, you must contribute 55m a day...you must.........the sooner the "project falls apart the better imo.

Absolutely not true. This is terrible scaremongering. Where do you get your information from? They'd have to be granted German citizenship for this which I'd suggest is highly unlikely. Right to reside and actual citizenship are two very different things.

. I know numerous nationalities here who have a right to reside in Germany but cannot go to the UK without a visa or whatever it is they require.

i shall tell you what makes life difficult, you have used "what" as a determiner and followed through with "someone" as a pronoun to a question following a determiner .......the world is clearly, according to this thread a difficult enough place already, please stop adding to the confusion.

I came across an expression a while ago - tolerating ambiguity - which is about coping with the confusion, or things "not as they ought to be".........

Think we should do a lot more to help, so tragic to see women and kids dying as they just want to survive and make their lives better, is that so wrong?

To some it is. And Cameron's answer is more dogs. Which we had a more sophisticated leader.

Of course it is a tragedy and put like that, then it is not wrong to want to make one's life better. But this whole saga is nowhere near that simple, as I am sure you appreciate. Significantly, you offer no concrete ideas as to how we should help. With hundreds of thousands, probably now in the millions, having entered the country over the last 5 to 10 years, one might argue that we are already doing quite a bit to help.

There are around 120,00 refugees, pending asylum cases and stateless persons in the UK

How many refugees are there in the UK?
At the end of 2014, the population of refugees, pending asylum cases and stateless persons made up just 0.24% of the population. That’s 117,161 refugees, 36,383 pending asylum cases and 16 stateless persons.
The vast majority of refugees stay in their region of displacement, so that 86% of the world’s refugees are hosted by developing countries. Turkey now hosts the highest number of refugees at 1.6million, followed by Pakistan at 1.5million

Maybe if there was peace in these countries and they stopped killing each other and became the moderates that we keep hearing about, then the burden would not be put on the peaceful EU countries.

Dread to think how many illegals are here...A bloke who owns a large company who does checks via the new machines installed for illegals found that in just 9 months he had to let go 780 illegal workers.

Astonishing amount and you do wonder how many are here illegally.

Religion is a key factor in these countries although if we hadn't poked our noses in with the USA it wouldn't be a problem today.
Just hope the highly religious nutters don't bring it here with them....but likely sadly.

Yep, we should not have poked our noses in. The fact is though we did because the Taliban were slaughtering its people, Saddam was slaughtering its people...in fact these countries and their backward ideologies have been murdering for years before we poked our noses in. Shall we just leave them to it, will the masses over here say we must stop the slaughtering as they did before we poked our noses in. What happens when another country/dictator.Islamic group starts the killing of its own.....same again eh.
They have to get peace in their own countries, do they really want it, if not then why should we take it all on.

The 120,000 you mention must of course be added to the millions already here. Whatever fine distinction you want to give them, it does not make a great deal of difference to those who will be most affected, notably in poorer urban areas. No one disputes that Turkey has millions etc etc, but I am not sure how relevant that is for the UK - presumably they are just over the border, as they hope to return, as opposed to economic migrants, pretending to be refugees, cherry picking which wealthier country to go to. Genuine refugees have always been welcome in the UK, and have doubtless contributed magnificently to this country over the centuries, but this is quite evidently not what we are seeing now, and common sense dictates that this situation on this scale cannot go on. Sooner or later, a more drastic Europe-wide military solution will have to be found to stem the flow. One might not like to contemplate this, as one post rightly said that it will have a dehumanising effect, but I am convinced that this is what will happen, simply because it will have to happen due to the sheer numbers involved.

I don't think BobbySmith was referring to 'the millions already here". I think he was referring to refugees and asylum seekers.
