UK net migration hits record high

Of course the 20 mile radius was an exaggeration. As was your nonsense about, sharing your house and where to put the prayer mats. The fact is that there is a whole spectrum in between yours and AMs exaggerations.

If you deal in such extremities and exaggerations then you will surely miss the majority of stuff that is going on between

Although as a matter of fact many people do offer their homes to refugees. I knew many farmers where I used to live who offered up a place to stay and food in return for help on the farm.

Just because you and AM would not consider doing such a thing doesn't mean others don't.

As I say don't judge everyone by your standards.

Of course the comment about prayer mats was partially jocular and of course it was extreme and much does happen on a lesser scale - did I not say precisely that? As a matter of fact, to quote your questionable fact, many people do NOT offer up their home and since you do not dispute what I say, I can assume that you too have never seen any evidence of it on here, when with relative anonymity it would be quite easy for someone to ease their conscience and claim how much they have done.

I would not consider offering up part of my home, but it is nonsense to suggest that because I don't, it means others should not - wherever have I said that? Of course they should, if that is what they want to do. Stupid statement. Of course some folk do, but they are very few and far between, as you well know.
I would have every sympathy with someone who did this, as they could justifiably say that they are doing all they can to ease problems. It is NOT a question of judging everyone by my standards, but stating a fact that few will be so altruistic. What I do not like is pious statements from alleged do-gooders, who advocate mass immigration, knowing that the possible problems with regard to social cohesion, will never affect them. Others, usually lower class folk, will have their areas totally transformed, whilst the trendy "elite" will be ever so pleased, darling, because there are so many new curry restaurants.

Perhaps you should not judge what is happening in England from a country 15000 miles away. What ever the differences of opinions re "UK net migration hits record high" the outcome and consequences will not affect you.

I had already ignored one of his questions I thought it rude to ignore another.

Who better to discuss net UK migration that someone who is involved in the figures....... A UK migrant.

Perhaps you shouldn't respond to someone if you think that geography negates their opinion..... Your choice SM.

Still working with those exaggerations? The original comment was about living with in 20 miles of asylum seekers. Why are you now banging on about putting them up in your house???

It makes no sense!

Here are a bunch of people who have no problem with refugees living amongst them.

I did you the courtesy of looking at it. It showed probably about a hundred folk, whose willingness to welcome refugees is most commendable. What of course it did not show was the size of the town, and how representative this group is. 100 in a town would not be ample proof of Germany's willingness to take them all. Also, refugees in Germany tend to be in hostels, and what evidence do you have that these folk will ever be near them. You say "living amongst them" - somehow I very much doubt that. I think it is probably a fair bet that they live well outside the town in comfortable middle class suburbs. I do accept that they are well meaning, but will they be happy to pay more taxes to increase the size of the local school, for example. Will they be prepared to wait that shade longer in A&E? Will they be prepared to etc etc? This is everyday life, and then frustrations can mount.

You are a UK migrant in Aus, not a migrant COMING to the UK or specifically England, so a very lame statement really.
I can respond to who i like, especially when their opinions from afar, on a subject that will not affect them, is made on an English forum, on a UK subject.

Puts paid to the suggestion that people won't want them living within 20 miles of them though doesn't it?

Because you talked about many people offering up their home!!

Read the posts HG

Bushy made a comment about people not wanting to live with 20 miles of an Asylum Seeker
I challenged this as incorrect.
You made a rather weird and confused counter argument about me not putting any asylum seekers up in my house.
I suggested that yours and Bushy's examples were 2 extremes and the truth lay somewhere in the middle (As an aside i made the point that many people do offer their homes to refugees)
You decided to ignore the main thrust of my post and nitpick about the wording of the aside to my point and continue banging on about putting refugees up in houses.

This thread is about Net Migration (check the title). Net migration is about people coming and leaving the the UK. Like it or not I am one of them.

I do wish you would stop encouraging those nasty foreigners from posting on UK forums. Perhaps you could organise a new banner "**** off we're full!". Coming over here taking up valuable virtual space and using out data.

Still at least your consistent :)

:)

YOU check the title........"UK net migration hits record high". Then realise that the "net migration" figures are for the LAST year, so you are NOT one of them. You chose to leave years before this problem.

Not really plucked just came up on my facebook as Hastings Gull and AM were suggesting that people supporting Asylum Seekers wouldn't want to live within 20 miles of them. The video shows a whole bunch of people who are happy to do just that.

Well if we are resorting to nitpicking.....

To hit a record high you have to compare the figure to other years, those other years include when I left. So looks like I am one of them.

It is nice to know you still want me on here though

Here are a bunch of people who have no problem with refugees living amongst them.

And another view of what is happening in Germany and the affects on those living HERE.......cherry picked for you.

"As Europe struggles with its worst migration crisis in more than half a century, all eyes are once again on Angela Merkel. The German Chancellor took a huge political gamble this week by tearing up the EU’s rulebook, while also demanding a new deal that would force Britain to accept hundreds of thousands of refugees.
Faced with a human flood, Mrs Merkel has abandoned the Dublin Convention that requires asylum-seekers to be processed in their country of arrival. Berlin’s new policy will allow Syrian refugees to apply for asylum in Germany, rather than in their first port of call.
Deciding to do such a thing without the approval of Brussels will surely encourage other EU countries to pursue their own migration policies, too. But this is the last thing Mrs Merkel wants. She and President Hollande of France have just called for a new, binding European agreement to share the asylum burden.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrives prior her visit to a refugee shelter that was attacked by far-right protesters over the weekend in Heidenau, eastern Germany, Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015
Her proposals, however, were greeted with incredulity by other member states, their inherent flaw being that they would give millions more migrants an added incentive to come to Europe. Mr Cameron, along with other leaders, is resisting Mrs Merkel’s move, despite moral blackmail from EU and UN officials.
