It’s not a ban, it’s the ending of the travel corridors that meant arrivals from certain countries didn’t have to self isolate on arrival. Now everyone who arrives into country has to have had a negative test within the 72 hours before they travelled and will have to isolate for 10 days on arrival (they can pay for a private test after 5 days and if negative they no longer need to isolate). Travel is currently banned from South America and Portugal due to the new Brazilian variant found.

And this is why it’s no surprise that people are confused.

Because some people don’t read stuff properly or understand it

Not a ban... an ending of travel corridors.

Great that we’ve given them all weekend to fly back with the virus with no test or quarantine upon return for those that make it this weekend. Seems very sensible indeed.

I hadn’t realised you’d headed off to Tenerife. Did you get away in between ‘lockdowns’?

Came in October. As things got bad pre Xmas decided to stay here. Was planning on coming back end Feb when I should be getting to front of vac queue. Now looking a bit risky so will try to get back in next 7-10 days but not even sure we'll be able to do that

Has Tenerife escaped CV19 cases and deaths just now?

29th Jan 2020 - BA Suspends all travel from China

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/01/29/cor...ys-cancels-all-flights-to-and-from-china.html

That was when we should have woken up, but some were trying to raise a bob for Big Ben, remember that?

They cancelled the flights following advice from the Foreign Office. A Home Office select committee investigation about this subject states ..

The incremental introduction of international travel measures during the period from late January to early March corresponded to the practice in other countries during this time and reflects the great uncertainty with which governments were grappling. It was right to adjust and extend self-isolation provisions as the virus became established, starting with Wuhan and China, but also extending provisions to cover places like Italy as the virus spread. Many other European countries were beginning to be affected by coronavirus in the same way, and many took a similar incremental approach as the UK. Evidence shows that the number of cases of direct transmission from China into the UK was extremely small, and that the number of cases from Italy started to fall after 25 February when border measures were introduced. However, it is impossible to distinguish between the impact of border measures and other factors such as lockdowns in Wuhan and Italy or falling overall passenger numbers which may have had a much bigger effect.

They were also following the scientific advice ...

The SAGE previously advised that restricting travel to the UK would have little impact on the COVID-19 epidemic in the UK and would not be a useful measure in containing the outbreak.

... moan if they follow the advice .. moan if they don't. Field Marshal Hindsight :salute:

.. and of course these people will be rigorously monitored to ensure that they stick to their isolation rules?
