Just got my laptop fixed, new hardrive has been put in.

Anyway, at the moment i am on the family PC and trying to get the router to work on the laptop via wireless connection, but it is not picking up its signal when it is right next to it, anybody know what to suggest, apart from turning it off and turning it back on again. Jus to let you know the router worked on it before but just not picking up the signal now.

Any help pleaseeeeeeeeeeee

have you been through the config for the wireless setting on the laptop... and set any network id, WAP/WEP passwords etc ?

Check the IP Settings on the Family PC then adjust the settigs on the PC but add 1 to the IP Address. If that confuses you you have a problem.

Frank , why worry about IP addresses? The broadband ISP is a DHCP host isnt it?

Has your router got RJ45 sockets...if so plug in your lap top to the ethernet port and the other end of the cat 5 into the router port....hey presto

you could always try turning off any wap/wep security on the router for a few mins and try to connect again. That would at least narrow down where your problem is.

Aha, should be but not always, depends who set it up. This one still uses static IPs.

yes but try a static connection first to be sure the lap top can see the router...then when you have proved it, we can try and set up your wireless
