Correct me if I am wrong, but if we make the FA cup semi finals with Man Utd, Chelsea and Man City does that mean we qualify for next seasons UEFA cup?

In which case we are only 180 mins away from European football!!

The Europa League place would go to the next Premier League team who hadn't already qualified for European competition.

Are you sure about that Grendel?

Can anyone categorically confirm this?

Does that only apply to the losing finalists?...Why were Portsmouth not in europe this year?..Was that to do with their off field problems or has the european place for the cup been dropped?

They were banned from Europe due to their financial status.

Edit: Or not..!

Portsmouth decided against applying for the European Licence needed to play in Europe to save cash. Then they got to the final and had a MASSIVE hissy fit because they changed their mind after the deadline for the application.

BBC Sport - Football - Portsmouth Europa League appeal rejected by FA

Yep, that's how Liverpool qualified this season. Chelsea and Manchester United (domestic cup winners) qualified for Europe through their league positions. The League Cup winners place therefore went to 6th in the Premier League (Villa), and the FA Cup place went to Portsmouth. Portsmouth didn't have a European License, so the place then went to 7th in the Premier League which was Liverpool. I think that's how Fulham qualified a couple of season ago as well.

...didn't they get there through the Inter Tonto Shield...or whatever they call it?

When they qualified for the UEFA Cup a few years back they did it through the Intertoto, but when they got into the Europa League last season it was through league position.

The cup winners do get a UEFA league spot - and if they've qualified by other means, then the runners-up get it. We'd have been in Europe in 1983/4 if bl**dy ManU had bothered to win the league!

They've changed it. The place goes to the Premier League rather than the runners-up
