U2 Pop: their greatest album or just a load of twaddle?

I found 'Lemon' to be a cringeworthy piece of shite, the biggest disappointment by any band since 'The Crunge' by Led Zep, and 'Emotional Rescue' by The Stones

Bleh. I love its mood, very noirish, very 80s. Can't explain it, just find it very, very atmospheric.

Yeah, a delighful rhythm and the chorus kind of floats off from the song.

Its not their best album by a long shot. Some good tracks. If you go listen to Discotheque then listen to The Stone Roses Begging You, you can see where U2 borrowed ideas from, for that track. I much prefer The Joshua Tree or The Unforgettable Fire

Will forever be the most over-rated band ever. Still living off Joshua tree's few good tracks.

I'd kind of agree with this, save to say the whole of Joshua Tree is excellent, as are many on Rattle and Hum. U2 haven't improved since. I went to the Pop concert at the old Wembley Stadium which was terrific, but mainly because of the old stuff they played.

Achtung Baby is a very good album, listened to it for the first time in ages last week.

Sadly when you have an album as good as The Joshua Tree was it is very difficult to supersede it with anything better.

Very nice .... if you have a spare £268.47!

Come on, the wrap-round "pair of Bono’s trademark Fly sunglasses" are worth the price alone. You would know a bargain if it smacked you in the face.

Bullet the Blue Sky still is my fave track off Joshua Tree, that album and Achtung Baby were their last great albums in my opinion.

I have all the albums up to Achtung Baby and not bought any since despite being my favourite band!

Back then, their live shows were incredible, since then Bono became annoying and he does not project the same energy as in the 80's!

Dug this one out myself a few months back, when 'POP' first out, I thought like a lot of others that is is was total tosh. But now I understand that maybe, just maybe they were ahead of their time with their experimenting and now it sounds fantastic.

Spot on! He had 27 spare pairs of sunglasses in case! Rock £ roll

27 pairs in a case. It just gets better. I sincerely hope it was some super cool bespoke flight case with its own seat on the flight over chained to a security guard.

If Emotional Rescue is one of your biggest disappointments you must have very high standards as well as very narrow taste.

What a snotty thing to even say. No, my tastes stretch across many genres and include liking some U2 and Rolling Stones - but if I need to like everything by those groups just to suit you - I'm glad to disappoint you. Both Emotional Rescue (and Black and Blue come to that), and 'Lemon' suck arse. Trying to like them because you like their other stuff, is compromising yourself - and I don't because those records are just shit.

I have spoken.
