Why? My understanding is that EasyJet as the biggest airline at Gatwick wanted (understandably) to have all their flights from one terminal and told Gatwick they wanted the North Terminal - taking Virgin with them - so BA got kicked out into the South. I'm quite happy as I prefer the South and tend to use BA rather than EasyJet.

Personally thought it was BA who wanted the south.

They are paying for all of Virgins relocation costs - lounges being rebuilt/compensation for loss of revenue for the V-Room being shut and comp for the passengers.

I guess that maybe to speed things up, but it's a bit odd!

As for holidays I've just been to France for a week and will have my usual Ibiza week (although we've upped this to 10 days as a week doesn't seem enough) and Barca Xmas trip plus long weekend in Stockholm for a Radiohead gig, the MELT! Festival (5 days just outside of Leipzig) and two weeks in NYC and Chicago in October as Frau pay back for letting me do my marathon stuff. Hope to add a few other bits and pieces as well.

I have also booked a weekend in Birmingham with my mates for early May

Did you have a nice wander after dinner one evening?.... take in the sights and sounds of the local community.... discover the real Egypt??.... no... because you can't.... it's unsafe anywhere outside the controlled tourist compounds and enclaves... not without an armed escort.

We go to Sahl Hasheesh. Amazing beaches, reef diving, 5 star hotels with fantastic food and all drink included as well as food.It is one massive cove and you can hire golf carts or bikes to get around. It really depends what you want out of a holiday but if you love beaches and like diving or snorkelling, gaurenteed sunshine , great food then it is amazing value.

Slightly OT but still on holidays. Going to Costa Blanca during the international break in September but by then my E111 Medical card will have expired and I usuallty have that as well as travel insurance. Should I renew the E111 or will it not be valid any more due to Brexit?

Pretty sure we will still be in the EU in September.

Cornwall, Hamburg and hopefully Carcassone. Cornwall will cost the most.

UK is too expensive with little to no sun, out at least no guarantee of sun.

Just back from Egypt, next up is Malaga for Easter, couple of weeks later a weekend in Majorca. All with the wife and no kids, they are all 18+. Thinking of camping in France with the kids in July though.

Wife is going with daughter to New York in a couple of weeks, so I hope to have a golf weekend somewhere with the lads around May/June.

On the James Martin travels on ITV he spoke very highly of Carcassone

A work colleague has a house in a village nearby. Bought it three years.ago..cost €125k, spent around £30k on it and now lives in it for 9 months of the year. 4 bedrooms, 5 acres of land...built a pool...it's an incredible place. If you have the gumption it is certainly a great way to spend your retirement

Last time we went to Spain we flew home from Malaga sat next to a chap who worked at BAE Farnborough ho told us he lived north of Malaga and had a room in Aldershot so came to England for 4 days and did his weeks work on flexi hours then flew back home to Spain for 4 days. He said the advantage was the way of life and property prices but also the discipline in schools for his teenage children. He also said about the police in Costa Del Sol if they said move along you moved no argument like in England.

Although the city walls etc are very picturesque.... the commercial tackiness of the inside of the old town is a bit much. It is worth a visit, bear in mind it has this modern money making front.

Saying that, I will be there myself renting a house again in Capestang... just a short hop along the canal-du-midi from Carcassonne.... my 6th time in that part of southern France.

UK holidays would be one of the best in the world ... If it wasn't for the uncertainty of the weather!

I love the uk summer. In fact it's my favourite day of the year.

Great area around the Canel Du Midi, great wine and not really bought up like the Cote D'Azur. Coast though is a disappointment in this area of France, great in June and September

Very interesting and picturesque but mostly rebuilt I believe and full of Japanese and Chinese tours when we were there. Daughter and partner getting a permanent residence nearer the Pyrenees which we hope to visit this summer.

No mention of South Africa after almost #100 posts - I thought that would be one destination that would become a lot popular with poor Euro rates and no jet-lag issues.
