Heard this a while ago, as proposed by Phil Gartside, Chairman of Bolton, personally I can't see any good in this what-so-ever.
The system would work like this.

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/twotier-premier-league-proposed-by-gartside-971097.html

Premier League 1
-
Premier League 2 (Championship at Present)

Same Promotion / Relegation as at the moment between the top two tiers but NO RELEGATION from PL2.

League 1
-
League2

NO PROMOTION from Football League 1 to PL2.

The only way this could benefit us, is if we got into The Championship when this changed.
Although it’s a long way off the likes of Stoke, Hull, Burnley and Bolton would surely favour this.

Poll to Follow.

Obviuously an idea to protect the interests of the weaker Premiership and Championship sides. Wouldnt think that the top Championship sides or any of Div 1 will be in favour of it as neither have anything to gain by accepting it.

Wouldn't it be great if Burnley stayed in the Premiership and Bolton went down? Firstly, they poached Coyle from Burnley, and secondly, for a borough the size it is, their support is pathetic. Blackburn and Burnley get greater support yet are much smaller (Burnley has only 75,000 people, I think).

I've posted on this subject in the past.

The idea gets worse every time you read it.It is a design to stop teams which have over-reached themselves from going down. And Notlob would be in that position,I think.

Still a nono.

What you have to get a feel for is why people object to it, what their true position is. Are they genuinely opposed to the whole idea of no promotion/relegation on principle, or are they opposed to it, just not if they could sneak up into PL2 just in time (not the same thing at all).

I think it stinks, and I'd oppose it even if we were poised to be in it.

I don't think the play-offs have been a bad idea at all, though. And it just shows how blinkered some Premier League clubs (Arsenal, Liverpool) are that they are mouthing off about it for the Champions League places. It's been going on under their very noses in this country for years, and most people in the Football League accept the 2/3 places up automatically, and welcome the added excitement and interest created of play-offs for the 3rd/4th promotion place. I'm sure if you asked even Leeds, who have suffered a bit with them, they wouldn't want them scrapped.

For - the fact that it will mean the Premiership prospers and becomes ultimately more competitive and globally friendly.

Against - the fact that it makes a mockery of the history of football, and goes against the wishes of nearly all football fans.

I know which side I reckon will win.

Which SPASTICS voted yes?

HONESTLY.

Possibly people who come onto this site but support teams playing in the top two divisions, they may see this as protectionism...whereas the rest of us see it as a way for the top clubs to reduce the amount of money that filters down through football and keep more for themselves...forming a sort of footy cartel.

Can someone please explain why the f*** this is being discussed today. I thought it had already been rejected by the Premier League last year along with the perennial Celtic/Rangers in the league issue. The article is over a year old.

I cetainly didnt vote yes. If Tottenham became poor enough to go down why shouldnt they be replaced by a better team?

I would love it if Bolton and the crooks that run that club went down.
