Tobias Hysen of IFK Gothenburg was linked with a move to England. He's a great footballer and 'came out' around five years ago. Unfortunately the biggest stumbling block was inevitable rival fans homophobic abuse towards him which is shameful on British football and society as a whole.

I'm fairly certain it is his brother (also a footballer, but not as well known) who came out.

Didn't know homos played football either, is their blood red as well?

Is anybody interested in whether a player is gay as long as they do the job for their club efficiently?

If they dont do their job for their club efficiently why does their sexuality become of interest?

Surely it should be nobody is interested in a players sexuality. with no caveats.

An internet 'journalist' (sorry I can't remember which well known site) grindered his way round the athletes village in Rio.
He then wrote up his findings.

Thankfully the media storm that surrounded such a gutter story meant it got taken down.
But not until after gay competitors from countries where homosexuality is still illegal, were exposed.

Edit - here's the story:-

Can you imagine if they were our players. We would get it big time.

You can almost guarantee that if this "story" is doing the rounds on other clubs forums, there will be a "bet they play for Brighton" comment on every thread.

It Shirly is only news because would be the first case of it's type. Sooner that happens and is done with the better so that future 'cases' can be treated with the correct response (oh, OK cool, and good luck on Saturday unless you play for palarse)

Nah, can't be, "Premier League footballers" not Championship.

Can't see why this should be considered news, not like it's the 50s and this sort of thing was illegal. Good on them.

Did I not notice us getting promoted? How did I miss that? Were Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday merely a nightmare brought on by strong drink and an over-active imagination?

I'm sure we'd all somehow manage to solider on.

No-one in this thread seems to, which is good, sadly the same probably can't be said elsewhere.

For as long as there's an audience out there that relishes reading about people's personal lives, where an individuals sexuality seems to be the jackpot story, then sadly it's likely to carry on for a while yet.

Also, I'm sure it's just a wording thing but I don't think many people would be interested in whether a player was gay if he was being crap/inefficient(?) either.
