The debate (at least amongst those that actually know what they are talking about) isn't about the science, which, as has been reported ad infinitum, is almost universally accepted as solid, but more along Nibble's line of what can be done about it. The key issue is the speed at which the climate change happens - if it's fast (and man's contribution is rapidly accelerating the pace of it) then it's much harder to adapt to, just in terms of the scale of investment that is required over the given time frame. IMO, that's why it's worth persisting with 'green' measures, because it will buy us more time (as a species and a planet) to adapt to climate change.

Your first point rather negates the second. Space aliens didn't invent capitalism, we did, or rather as you correctly point out some of us did. It's our own greed / desire for progress (delete according to your political beliefs) that got us here. What's more. as Block F points out no one has ever come up with a workable alternative. "Communist" China is now one of the worst offenders because their people worked out they preferred iPads and a Lexus to forced route marches, bans on culture, little red books and famine. I don't blame them. I would too. The USSR was TERRIBLE for the planet, churning out nuclear disasters, fossil fueled power plants and shitty Ladas that everyone had to drive.

Right now there are some awful, awful companies doing terrible things to the planet but there are also some very good ones using financial incentives to try and save it (organic food companies, windfarm and solar panel companies, ethical investors).

Greed may lay at the route of some of the environmental problems but just wanting to exist comfortably is as much to blame. The majority of the world's population would prefer that to Marxism and I'm with that majority.

Quite. The denial is understandable and corporations and governments have ZERO to gain in their lifetime by doing anything about it. Since most large scale money makers only actually think in terms of the period they can actively make money, between 40-70 years they have no interest in sorting it. It's a shambles.

Humans are doomed anyway - we may well accelerate that with manmade climate change, but regardless of whether that happens, humans will cease to exist, that is only ever a question of when and not if.
