Two Kerry Mayo's

Only having been able to get to 5 games so far this season (6 at Notts Co), I am at a bit of a loss to understand what's taken Kerry Mayo from being an ever present to not even being on the bench over the last 10 or 11 games?

I've seen some of the stick he's taken on here about weight in recent weeks, but when I saw him earlier this season and last, he was one of our more reliable and consistent performers?

So, guys and gals, what gives? Or are there really two Kerry Mayo's?

despite him being ever present before i think mcghee has spotted something that i had a long time ago. that is nearly all opposition goals come from their right wing. this is because although kerry is a great tryer and his heart is always in it, but he always keeps backing off until the winger can get a cross in. sometimes he should attack the ball more. in my humble opinion.

I couldn't have put it better myself - Harding doesn't back off and nearly always gets body in front of the ball which prevents a cross.

Unless Dan Harding gets injured, I think it's unlikely that we'll see Kerry in the blue and white again other, perhaps, than as a substitute. I've never doubted his commitment to the club but sadly he lacks the skill, vision and pace of his young pretender. In my view, both Kerry and Watto deserved to be dropped. The number of times that they were left for dead earlier in the season, even by fairly average wingers, was embarrassing. Sad but true.

im more surprised at watson being dropped as he used to be a good player until he got injured. i thought his lack of form was just down to his lack of fittness. not complaining though because virgo is doing a brilliant job. also el abd looks very promising.

He was not needed on the bench.

We had Kuipers, El-Abd, Hart, McPhee and Jones.

That just about covers every position on the pitch (including central midfield as our two wide players can play there, as can El-Abd)

Mayo can only really play left back at this level; Jones is more versatile so there is no need for them both to be on the bench.

I think that you'll find that he is currently a long term injury case - I'm sure he's not been playing in the reserves either .

i'm glad that mayo has been dropped. Unlike most people here i think he's consistently been a liabillity for us, he has no pace, no ability to tackle or pass!

i think most people do agree with you. what nobody is questioning is his will to work and passion for the club.
