Unbelievable. Two men die and one critical after walking onto a frozen lake in a country park in Leicester, before falling through the ice into the freezing waters.

First of all I'd like to offer my condolences to the family, but also I'd like to say people should understand the risks of walking on a frozen lake.

Reckless behaviour , just the same as walking along the shoreline when there are 20ft waves pummelling the beach in a storm.

Group of people, of which 2 who were in the rock gardens by Preston Park were walking across the pond today as the bus went past. Must have been at least 30 years old, worrying how little common sense they have!

I walked on the pond at Queen's Park as youth in the 80's, loads of us kids were playing on it. Mind you the ice was bloody thick.

As is anyone who decides to walk on frozen ponds or lakes.
I would be CACKING myself at falling through. What is missing from the brain gene to remove this fear, and make someone shrug and say "meh....it'll hold", before embarking ?

I genuinely don't know.

I just can't get over the mind set,ok Holland and low countries are famous for skating on the canals, but this is when it is seriously frozen. Why here, commonsense tells you otherwise surely ?

I suppose seeing about thirty other kids playing on it gave us a bit of confidence when we arrived up the park.
