Is it me or has X descended into a ridiculous level of poisonous rhetoric and posts?

It's unsurprising it's a source of choice of some people as it just seems a factory of conspiracy, lying and extremism. Oh, and Elon Musk.
I don't think it's you. I stopped using it a while back as I no longer felt comfortable using a social media platform that allowed/encouraged such a level of misinformation and hatred.

I've heard many people defend its use on the grounds of it being great for getting immediate information, especially sports/news related. I understand that, but there must be a time where the bad stuff outweighs the good. In my opinion, that tipping point was reached a long time ago. Sad, as initially it seemed to have such potential for good.

I deleted it about 3 months ago after being on there from nearly the beginning.

My god has my mood / mental health improved. It turned into a cesspit and became very hard to avoid all the baiting and nastiness. I do miss the football rumours but a small price to pay!

I don't use it much at all - and steer well clear of all the shite/binfests/bullshit.

It has its uses - and there's the occasional bit of interesting content, but most of it is with misinformation or people just arguing or slagging other people off.

It has. Tis an awful cesspit. There used to be some useful stuff in there but not now. I deleted my account yesterday after all the Southport stuff started appearing. This included an Amercian account naming the suspect falsely and, of course, those without the brains they were born with taking it as read.

I keep a 'phantom' account for reading / searching and when people send me links. There's still some genius on there (see below) in between the poison but you have to search it out. Mostly now it's a ghastly cesspit of people with more flags on their profile than braincells.

When the original character limit was in force it was an intelligent and mostly liberal way to make succinct points and tell jokes. Musk has turned it into the worldwide, unfiltered version of the Bear Pit.

There’s been a definite big uptick in far right accounts appearing this week

I keep blocking them. There are interesting accounts as you say.

I rarely go on to X these days.

I have to hope that, however atomised society has become, it isn't yet that resolutely hateful unforgiving place.

Twitter would be brilliant if half of it went of and joined a gutter forum somewhere. I could block and block again but it's something I don't like doing. I don't do it on NSC, but NSC is mostly very good. Folk I don't agree with seem to put themselves across well and there is always common ground.

Facebook is fine. I only have people I know in there and am only part of groups that are interesting. I do spend too much time looking at old pictures of Brighton and disused railways histories, but that's okay.

set to "following" and you'll only see post and retweets of those accounts you follow. then its up to you to venture into trending, knowing there may be dragons. and use an ad blocker.

Just when I think I’ve had enough of X something makes me laugh out loud.

My wife was watching the Olympics gymnastics on tv when I came home from work, I asked her why Johnny Vegas was doing the commentary  after some funny looks and eye rolling my wife said she now couldn’t un hear Johnny Vegas.

Thought i would check the comments on X :lolol:

Since Musk took-over, my X home page has been swamped by ads. Wading through literally dozens of them every time, before I can get to the few people I follow.

Blocking them only allows space for more.

Looks like you have to pay for a premium version to escape.

I still fond it an interesting and varied way of staying in touch with like minded people and don’t really have a problem avoiding the nonsense, and worse. As for adverts, fact of life, just scroll past them.

Much. Facebook you can pretty much avoid gunk by simply having folk you know on there and joining groups of interest. You can do that in Twitter, but it's hard to look for up to date info on stuff because it's full of gutter dwellers.

Most of you are better of here where you have a mod to protect you when you hurl abuse at others then get some back.

I haven't got the hang of twitter yet, there is to much I don't want to see and no easy way to contact people for private messages. Been on now for about 4 months and can see how it becomes an echo chamber.
