Thanks for the advice so far - it sound like the cabbage patch should be a good place to go.

when are they actually going to wear that purple kit? it is, nonetheless, pretty flair

They are wearing it against Argentina on 14th November. Beyond that they will only have the opportunity to wear it again if they play Argentina or the Pacific Islanders over the next 2 years, given that the kit will be replaced before the next world cup.

Alas I'm not a big rugby fan, but I live in Twickenham.

You have a few opportunities to enter Twickenham from the A316 (M3 becomes A316) and if you're not coming on the train then I'd come in via Hospital Bridge roundabout. Parking is easy at that end of town, plus if you give yourself plenty of time there are a number of short cuts to the stadium which anyone you see walking by will tell you and you'll have a big range of pubs and restaurants to take your choice from.

If you take the train and want the bread and butter Rugby pub with the big crowd then the Cabbage Patch is your choice, but again if you keep walking toward the river you've got the Barmy Arms, Eel Pie etc with big rugby crowds too.

As a place it's very, very safe. We call it nappy valley, it's where West London's middle class couples move to buy a house and have kids...er which is what we did.

As I said I'm not a big rugby fan, but I do envy the ability of rugby fans to converge on mass, drink all day with no rivalry or tension. I'd love to complain about them, but I can't and I'd love football pre and post match to be the same experience.

All the advice on here has been sound, either coming in via Twickers or Richmond. You'll have a great time. Don't think I've ever not enjoyed a day at HQ, even if Bath or England have been on the wrong end of the scoreline:drink::drink::drink::jester:

Get off the train in Richmond and go across the road to the pub (Orange Tree, I think) then the stewards will come and tell you when the last buses are going to the ground from around the corner, cost you about £1.50 I think and they drop you right at the gates and then enter nearest Guiness outlet and get you 4 pint takeaway pack and refill as often as you can during game

Thanks for the advice folks. Going tommorrow, so will let you know how it all goes. I have decided to head straight to O2 tent when I get there (first 500 O2 customers get free pie and pint for them and a mate). We are also going to try and grab a drink at the cabbage patch.

I just hope that we actually manage to score a try this week...
