Good Lord! Far too young and always cane over as a good guy. I believe one of the owners of Quaff in Hove used to be his sommelier. RIP.

Used to go to our local Chinese restaurant in Orpington. A nice bloke. I asked him for an autograph on the train
once and he was happy to oblige.

RIP.

I remember when the only TV chefs a lot of people knew were him, Delia and Ken Hom and I particularly enjoyed his restaurant near me - but not enough others did cause it went under. Wouldn't have even thought he was 59, but that's still far too young to die.

RIP Gary, had the pleasure to dine in his restaurant on Arcadia a few years ago. He came round a spoke to us and had pictures with him which he kindly signed. Taken far to young.

Being 55, that's a bit of a shock.

Being 57, close to 58, it's even more so.

Really shocking, he was one of the chefs I could relate to, kept it simple and easy to follow. RIP fella, seemed one of the good guys.

Jamie Oliver tweeted he died after a tragic fall, but quickly deleted that?

One of the people, along with Rick Stein, that really got me enthused about food and cooking back in the 1990's.

Got a few of his books, strangely enough was just looking at his Cookery Year Autumn into Winter book the other day as there is a superb Venison Loin recipe in it which I was thinking of doing this weekend.

I'm also 59 so this is a bit shocking and obviously very sad for his family.

Indeed very sad the report said he was working up to and on the day he died so assume it was somthing sudden and possibly unexpected thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends

59 no age especially as I am the same age
