Ghaly led with his arm for the aerial challenge, not sure about the red card for that. Martin Jol then points and jabs his finger at the referee, deserved to be sent off the touchline.

Had Ghaly got past him, as he was looking likely to do, you'd have to think someone would then score from that position. Theoretically. Even if this is Spurs we're talking about...
So Tugay had to go. Red cards can seem especially harsh when a penalty's been awarded as well, but them's the rules...
Yes, I'm biased, but I thought while the ref was pretty fussy throughout and didn't really let the game flow much, he got both penalty decisions right, the Tugay red card right and the Ghaly red card... wrong.
Bit of a dull game, though, and the sooner we play again on a Saturday (whichever dim distant day that may be), the better...

IMHO this last man red card idea should be scrapped and the refs given the choice of:
(a) was it a deliberate foul to stop a goal = red card
(b) or an attempt to play the ball that the player got wrong , as in this case = yellow card.
This to be irrespective of being the last man or not. So if a man pulls a players shirt in the box, a deliberate foul = red card if he tries to tackle and trips him up = yellow card.

Fault with the rules.
He was the last man, it was a penalty, but not a deliberate take-down. A sending-off is simply a wrong ruling. The rules say that he has to go, but they are taking away all the referee's capability to make a decision based on a circumstance.
A player can also handle the ball and prevent a certain goal, but there not be a penalty or infringement! If the ball goes to the hand, and not vice-versa, the ref is not to award a kick. However, if he did give it, he HAS to send the player off - even if it's something unavoidable!
