Potter has been with us 3 years, has done a good stint and will have to decide what he wants from his career and life now.


I'll not be upset if he chooses to go to Chelsea. Absolutely understandable, although I want him to stay.


I'm not sure he'll be Chelsea's number 1 choice, and I'm not sure if the instant results requirement at Chelsea will appeal to him.


So, I can't worry about hypotheticals for now. I just hope when the time comes the club get a decent replacement and not another Hyypia figure.


Potter will leave one day and my guess is before the end of his 6 year contract with us. It'll be a sad day.

I've seen and heard enough from him to know he's not going there (not right now at least).

Exactly. Chances for #ManagersLikePotter to jump into that top echelon come along very, very rarely indeed. The big clubs have a magnetic draw to big names, often a bit exotic sounding and with a Champions League track record.

And yet we'll have a load of fans going "Why would he go there?"

It's pretty obvious why to anyone who has ever had any ambition in life or wanted to better themselves at anything.

He's just seen what happened to Tuchel, he's not thick and would know full well that could be him in 12 months time verses walking away from what he's building in Brighton before he's seen where it could go.

All of you spouting "Once in a lifetime opportunity, he'll jump at it" are doing him a great disservice imo.

He is a manager on the up and the day will come when he will be approached by any top six club needing a new manager, why would he jump into the maelstrom of Chelsea with a very good chance it could all go wrong very quickly

I can see him replacing Klopp or Pep when they decide to move on in a much more organised and sensible fashion

He really does not to jump as his opportunities will continue to come imo

BUT if as reported Chelsea are approaching us and he is granted permission I'd have to assume that he is interested and probably would go.

I don't think the Chelsea fanbase will be at all happy, in the main, if they appointed Potter. And the yank chairman is a crowdpleaser based on his stint thus far - so reckon they'll go for Poch or Zidane.

The immediate logic suggests they go straight to Poch or Zidane etc

However, the unknown in all this is Boehly. For all we know he may not fit the mould of normal top 6 chairmen who only look short term. Boehly may look at the success of Klopp and think he’ll tolerate a year or two without success in order to build an empire.

If Chelsea do want to speak to GP, I’m certain he will want to listen to what they have to say. The very fact that they are offering him the job as opposed to a proven CL manager suggests strongly they are looking to build for the longer term.

So in my mind it goes ….

Chelsea formally talk to GP about the job = 30% chance
Chelsea offer GP the job = 25% chance
GP takes job = 20% chance

The way he has spunked money around this summer with no clear plan suggests he very much is thinking short term and desperate to appease the fans, still think he will go for a big name. However if he does approach Potter we are deluded in thinking he would turn them down and that's not just necessarily about money, it's about success and the chance to win trophies which is very much more likely at Chelsea than it is here I'm afraid.
