I have been given the task of choosing a weeks holiday, nothing fancy, probably a week in Cornwall or somewhere but have been told it HAS to be the within the first 3 weeks of August. I'm fully aware that the first game of the season SHOULD be the 6th August, I understand there is a good chance we will be at home for the first game (can anyone shed any light on this?) so that rules week one out, there is not a chance in hell i'm missing the first game at the Amex. I'm guessing that the following weekend we SHOULD be away so week 2 is a possible but are we likely to have a midweek immedietly after the first weekend (away?) and could we be at home for the 2nd weekend, the 12thish? It's doing my head in, If i mess up and have to either cancel the holiday or return early my wife will probably leave me
I know it's hard to guess but ANY suggestions would be super!

Not that I can really help, but I would imagine the first game (home/away) is all down to what the fixture computer decides? Surely it's a 50/50 chance of us being at home?

football before women! unless married... do what you gotta do. The first game should def be at home as gay pride is the following weekend so we'll be away. no idea what midweek games there may or may not be, check the championship fixtures for this season and see if any teams played midweek. If i were you i'd book the week after the 6th. Its the first game that counts, the rest are just another game... (well thats the mindset you need in this situation!). good luck.

I would think that our request for a home game for the first game will be looked at very favourably so why not go early to mid week following that game for 7 days and you should be away whilst the first away game and pride is on as we will not be at home if pride is on. Old Bill will not allow it. Do you have to gpo Saturday to Saturday could you not go Monday to Monday or Sunday to Sunday or even Wednesday to Wednersday. This has the added advantage of easier travellling to Cornwall on another day other than Saturday.

Can you not fob wife off until the fixtures come out in June.

Generally the first midweek game of the season is a League Cup fixture (ie Northampton 10th Aug last season) which depends on the draw for home or away.

Just arrange your holiday round the first away game the wife thinks she is going away and you can slope of to the game. Obviously we may get a undesirable destination but that's a chance you may have to take. Also you will have to wait till the fixture list comes out.

It's only the Prem teams involved in Europe who are exempt from the first round.

i thought it was prem teams in europe come in at the 3rd round. prem teams not in europe are 2nd round. everyone else is 1st.

I was under the impression BBC wanted to show our first game live so I am not sure if this could move it to the Friday, Sunday or make it Saturday evening/night time kick off, just to throw something else in the mixer.

No! As the Football League have accommodated our request for an away match on 10 out of the last 12 years on the first weekend of the season and as Pride are having their admission charge festival (apparently) on the 13th it is pretty nailed we will be at home on the 6th or more likely 7th August.

If brighton had wigan at home for the first game at falmer and then palace midweek in the cup at home! which one would you look forward to most? And would you be tempted to make palace :smokin:your first game at falmer to avoid the panto of first game:clap: back slapping and clapping:clap: for anyone who is marched in front of the crowd for the game. Found the last game at withdean a little contrived, even encouraged to boo the half time withdean wager board:facepalm:
