Trump isn't remarkable. He's just an example of a psychopath happy to do anything to win. Like the psychopaths I have known and worked near (I won't say 'with'), what constitutes a win isn't necessarily anything the rest of us would recognise as a win.

Keeping that in mind, there is no need to invoke any analysis of his lies, lawbreaking or apparent absurdity.

And of course plenty buy into what he seems to be selling to them. As I noted elsewhere at some point, people vote for what they see as the national interest or what they see as personal interest, and they do so ruthlessly. Many of us are somewhere between these two stools. Either way, the candidate's honesty and probity may well not figure too highly in the decision making process.

I'm sure that were Das Reich American, and legally entitled to vote, it would be a no brainer for him to vote for Trump, and he'd genuinely wonder why the rest of us might feel differently.

Lastly, as I found with my recent ill fated row with one of my brothers, the facts don't always map to the narrative, and an awkward fact can sometimes unsettle the narrator. Trump may be many things but stupid cannot be one of them. 'Being There' is not sufficient to propel someone into the White House. As with Boris, I sometimes suspect that people have to say 'liar', 'evil', 'thick' as a mantra to ward off being sucked into the cult of BoJo. Even I have found myself tittering at Boris' quips on occasion. Then I remind myself that even a broken clock is right twice a day.

My prediction a few years ago was Trump would become president. My guess is he will dodge the latest bullet. I would hope that he does so à la Captain Bob rather than à la OJ Simpson, though.

I do agree that at heart he’s far more an opportunist and bully, than a racist or anti semite.

I know there’s a bit of racist shit on him from decades ago, but he really didn’t habitually slur non-whites or Jews. He would’ve struggled to succeed in NYC if he’d dared do the latter. Similarly, he was no Born Again Christian or devout soul.

He only adopted and inflamed every hateful cause over the last 5 or 6 years, to scoop up the votes of millions of weirdos outside the more enlightened metropolises.
