Trump

I watched the Democratic debate last night and I think the winner was probably Trump. At times it just degenerated into a shouting match with the candidates ripping each other apart- NBC did a terrible job of moderating it.

For me Elizabeth Warren was the clear winner - first time I'd seen her with the gloves really off, she put Bloomberg on the backfoot from the start. Given the chance she'd walk all over Trump, she stays laser focused and doesn't get fazed by personal insults which Trump is bound to resort to. I still like Bernie Sanders, but sometimes he comes over as Mr Angry. Why Americans get so obsessed over his 'socialist' agenda is beyond me - it's only the same system that a lot of European countries use without any issues - but they seem to think it borders on Communism. Bloomberg took most of the flack as the billionaire new kid on the block. As billionaires go I don't mind him, did a good job as Mayor of NYC and puts his money where his mouth is donating considerable amounts to climate change and gun reform, all of which are on record. But he didn't have a great night - his past comments caught up with him and he came over as arrogant, smug and out of touch, this probably skewered his campaign. Think he would be better off picking one of his opponents and backing them with his resources. But the Democrats need to realize that nobody is perfect and they've all got baggage, they need to stop keep taking the moral high ground - Trump didn't and nobody seemed to bat an eyelid. Whoever the Democrats choose voters have to get behind that person and stop finding piddling reasons not to vote for them - they did that last time and that worked out really well.

One thing Bernie has which all those left in the Democratic race don't have is the strength of personality to go toe to toe with Trump in debates.

People won't vote for a weak candidate that Trump runs over like a freight train with in debates. Warren, Biden etc don't have what it takes.

They will lose votes because of that. Bernie matching it with Trump could win him a lot of votes.

He'll back out of the debates claiming bias.

He'll lose a close election

He'll refuse to leave claiming it was rigged.

Then America's systems will be really tested.

His biggest issue is within his own party.

So many different parts of the Democrat machine trying all they can to ensure he doesn't get the nomination.

He has a very good case for claiming bias.

I think Gripper means that he thinks Trump will lose and refuse to go.

I think he’ll win comfortably no matter who the Democrats put against him.

That is hardly a uniquely American conundrum. The exact same warped narrative was a decisive factor in our own recent election.

Bloomberg is a literal racist with policies to back it up in his past and has no place on a debate stage he actually bought his way onto, the hypocrisy of giving that man a second of your time while crying about Trump is astounding.

Warren is an idiot that is already rolling back on the more radical pledges she made including following Bernies plan for healthcare and has largely been absolutely shocking in debates until last night and that's only because Mini Mike is the easiest target on this earth.

Pete is baby Biden, Biden is a senile old man that embarrasses himself on national TV. The DNC have already made it clear they're going to pick who they want and ignore the will of people. Of the six people on stage last night only Bernie believes the person with the most votes should be the presidential candidate. The same 5 people who oppose the popular vote have spent 4 years telling the US public that the popular vote is the ONLY way forward in an election and to scrap the electoral college. It's Bernie or bust for me, sadly I can't vote but pay taxes, that's also beyond me. I can always see why people vote for Trump when this is the alternative, you basically pick your lizard. The sneaky one that is bought and paid for by millionaires behind the scenes and talks the talk or the idiot who spouts his policy on Twitter and can't keep a single moment of his presidency secret. I know which is the safer option between any of those 5 democrats or Trump, not including Bernie.

The problem really with the Democrat candidates is you have two ex-Republicans, one senile old guy, one local mayor out of his depth, one boring democrat corporate shill and one firebrand independent as their options.

How do you find a person out of that lot that will get various groups of people to rally behind them?

Even the racists on here would struggle to back that up.

This is the conundrum with Trump, is he being really clever or is he being incredibly thick ? This, most recent, ramble through the cloudy passages at the back of his mind has put me in mind of an old time comedian, the type that would work nightclubs and late night sleazy venues. You know the type, the world has moved on and so the old material does not work so well on a majority of people but there will always be a small but dwindling market for it on the fringes.

I can almost hear him saying stuff like.. " When I grew up in New York we had all the Polish kids, the Jewish kids, The Italian's who ran all the deli's and lots of the restaurants, the Irish kids and all those German kids too...…. now I walk around New York and it ain't my town anymore , it's full of foreigners.... "

It's hard now to imagine there's a plan.

All he's doing is speaking his mind.
That in turn is resonating with his core vote of racists.

Unbelievably the Democrats are going to end up proposing another candidate capable of losing to a lying, crocked, racist who has surrounded himself with felons.

My hope is Bloomberg buys the nomination and Bernie finally snaps and runs as a third option. That would truly throw shit to the wall so we can see what sticks.
