Surprised there aren't riots in DC!

Trump is using the re-closing of the government as a threat because that is all he has. The fact that his poll numbers are down, his former enforcer/lawyer continues to say he'll testify to Congress, it's a total of 6 associates/Trump campaign officials that have been indicted, he gained nothing from closing the government because he knows it caused great harm to government employees who did nothing wrong, his numbers are now down to just his original core supporters, wikileaks has now been tied to the Russians and Trump has shown favour to wikileaks in his campaign speeches. Mueller is doing an excellent job of slowly putting all the issues together that will convict Trump of his crimes. When it finally happens there will be dead silence from Trump.

The shut down means there's very little traffic, let alone congestion in DC.

Give with one hand...

Don't normally watch Saturday Night Live - it's just not that funny. But last night's show with Steve Martin as an OTT Roger Stone was OK. James McAvoy did a pretty good job as guest host as well

They're getting back pay, expected by Monday so that's that.

Also interesting to see the amount of normal people celebrating this govt reopening as a win for the democrats and not a win for those people who have had to struggle to eat and provide for their kids over the last 30 odd days.

Makes me think of the lyrics in the song Question Time by Dave: "I feel like politicians are all addicts In a big fat game but it's lives that you gamble with"

Except now the general public who have a side declared are playing the game too, it's vile.

They're probably celebrating Trump being knocked down his latest peg or two.

Well... It is a win for the democrats and the Republicans and Trump have backed down without winning any concessions (and critically without their 5.7bn... which they don't need anyway because Mexico is paying).

Alternative NOAA on Twitter: "Just waiting for someone to tell Trump about the Polar Vortex so he can make a stupid comment about 'global warming'."

A couple of hours later . . .

Trump: "In the beautiful Midwest, windchill temperatures are reaching minus 60 degrees, the coldest ever recorded. In coming days, expected to get even colder. People can’t last outside even for minutes. What the hell is going on with Global Waming? Please come back fast, we need you!"

Overnight my twitter timeline has exploded with Trumpian news.

Seemingly he is going to declare a national emergency in order to fund his border wall.

Meanwhile the US has announced a $22 trillion deficit.

As someone, much smarter than me, said:-

Can you imagine the Republican reaction if a Democratic President did the same over gun control or climate change?

Oh and of course there's this:-

He hasn't changed tack. Still believes that Dem Presidents should not subvert the constitution. He also believes that Repubs and Dems must allow Pres Trump to subvert the Constitution of the US for his own benefit & because he is unable to negotiate w/ Congress.

**** the Precedent, he shouts....

Was his election win not a mandate for building a wall to protect their borders from illegal immigrants crossing their borders?

Good or bad idea it was one of his policies that played a part in his victory.
