I hope the Yanks don't take the easy way out once Biden is sworn in, and they throw the book at Trump and he ends up behind bars.

Just listened to the whole thing. In any other western democracy, he would be forced to resign at minimum. And prosecuted by many. I admit I am amazed that he does actually believe every single thing he has been spouting over the last couple of months. What I thought was saving face was him genuinely trying to blame every single other person than himself. Given this, the worst villains as far as I am concerned are those that are enabling him. They know they are peddling lies just to appease him.

He doesn't. He's a troll who is trying to agitate his opponents/critics and, at the same time, saying what his supporters want to hear.

He knows the game's up and also (I think) that what he said is not enough to get himself into REAL trouble. Everything else might, but not saying what he said, in the way he said it. Too difficult to prove any form of corruption (just like his 'perfect' phone call with the Ukrainians).

Proud Boys ... sound like a gay stripping act rather than a Militia.
Apologies to any gay members of NSC as there is absolutely nothing wrong with being gay, unlike being a member of the Proud Boys.

Really? That is what you took away from the first 10 minutes of a conversation he did not know was being recorded? It was literally 10 minutes of him listing every one of the made up claims he peddles. I had assumed the same but this shows me that he cannot accept he lost. My sister is having similar issues with her husband. He cannot accept he is to blame for their separation and is peddling ridiculous lies/theories and trying to blame everyone else. Similar background with a father who demanded success and would not accept defeat. Go enough years thinking you are never wrong and you will believe it regardless of facts. Outright denial of things you said recently or that are plain to everyone else.

My takeaway of that recording – and listening to him for the past four years is that he very often spouts a lot of words without saying anything. Yes, he will blame anyone but himself for anything that's happened (and take all of the credit for things that go well (vaccines, for example)) and yes he will echo the often trotted out clichés about voter fraud and rigged elections. But deep down I believe that he knows that Biden beat him fair and square and the past few weeks have been about revenue generation (asking his supporters to fund his legal challenges, even though that's NOT where the bulk of the money is going) and disrupting the handover process to the new administration.

He will do anything he can to stay centre of attention. He will deny saying things outright that have been part of a live TV address. People KNOW he is lying – and he knows he's lying – but that means people will talk about him even more. Much more than they would do for any other president.

So yes, I firmly do believe he is a real-life troll and a very funny individual.

In fairness, as in the interests of truth, he wasn't trying to commit fraud as he understood it. He was telling them to find enough votes for him to win, yes, but from what he believed were fraudulent activities that cast illegal ballots against him.

Bit annoyed with the way the BBC headlined it.

I had the whole tape on and it just sounded a bit desperate but their were no 'wow' moments really. Then again, perhaps there are no more of those possible with Trump.

Bold declaration in your first 8 words!! Don't think anyone other than Trump's cronies see it like you do. You're assuming he genuinely believes that there has been fraud despite no evidence to the contrary. He knows there is no evidence but he is desperate to cling to power because I guess he knows the shit storm coming his way as soon as he hands over the key to the White House.

Anyone else watching CNN with the Geogia run-off election for the two remaining seats in the senate? Could be more important than the Presidential election as democrat win will give them full control of congress.

The Republicans have this. They only need one win and they'll have that for sure.

It is worth noting that Trump has invited his fanbois to a rally in Washington DC today. Lots of Neo-Nazis are already there amongst them. How are they going to react when they realise they have lost the Senate because a Black man and a Jewish man won in a southern state? It could get messy.

My sleep pattern has gone mental due to these US Elections. However it is beginning to look like it might all have been worth it. Democrats almost certainly have one of the seats now with the other one looking likely to turn Blue when the small remaining votes come in.

Just a word of advice. You should probably avoid being so overly declarative when talking about uncertain situations.

That you did. Well done on changing your mind so quickly. It's rare to see people willing to change their opinions based on new evidence these days.

To be fair, I've called every big election early for years and always been right (including Brexit after the first two results). This time my gut may have got it wrong, which surprised me because I study the numbers very carefully. I could not see Ossoff winning (and he still isn't) but it looks like he will. Ha, he just took the lead.
