I can't stand the first half of Blur's output. Quite a big fan of Blur (the album) onwards.

(but I followed them from the first single day release of she's so high, bought on a whim, so you're gonna get an arguement from me)

and i cant find Oily water LP edit. The 2nd album was heavily influenced by MBV and The Cardiacs.

I only like the early ones. I find The Joshua Tree onwards pompous and unlistenable.

Can't believe no one's mentioned The Second Coming by The Stone Roses. Awful.

Some Great songs on The Second Coming IMHO. I wouldn't call it awful, not great i will grant you, it just had too much to live up to.

The Happy Monday's Yes Please however, is a different story absolute shite with nothing even half decent to redeem it.

Very much this. First two albums were genius, until we realised they really were a one trick pony.

Odd.

Can't stand is probably a bit strong, but the likes of Country House epitomises everything I hate about the 90s. Far better later in their career when they seemed more in competition with Radiohead rather than Oasis.

I think that Second Coming is actually a good call. I say this as a HUGE Roses fan, but it is SO poor in comparison to the first.

Its sole redeeming feature is Ten Story Love Song, which is MAGNIFICENT.

Ahaaaa!

Now I understand!.

Country House and other such NONSENSE are very much what Blur fans would consider to be LATER Blur, which explains our bemusement at your comment.

How does Modern Life is rubbish fit into this? I agree with The Great Escape era and to a point Parklife but for me they didn't manange to do anything as interesting as Modern Life is Rubbish.

Oh please forget about the Great Escape, the 3 previous albums are far far better. Only Universal came out of that album alive.

I agree with this. The Second Coming is largely self indulgent bullshit, but that song is fab.

Also think There's No Other Way is cheesy cod 60s Austin Powers nonsense.

And Parklife is one of the worst songs of all time by anyone, ever.

The production of Begging You is the highlight for me, nothing much else though. In fact I don't think I ever bought it, or if I did I gave it away.

Not sure you'll get many agreeing with you on this but I'm with you all the way. I quite like a lot of their music but really struggle with Damon Albarn's voice, so much prefer the later feedback-y stuff when his Mockney warble is much less prominent.

I am going to fight the corner of Tears and Your Star Will Shine and to a lesser degree Begging you. The first two stand with 10 story love love song to me.

From looking through the tracklistings a bit more, it does seem that The Great Escape and Parklife are the albums I really detest.

I struggle to complain at any of Damon Albarn's work. You've got to respect someone who is prepared to risk his reputation by constantly experimenting. Yes, some of it is not as good as the others (Gorillaz also produced some great stuff and some not so good), but at least he's put it out there. Compare this to the Gallaghers and their dated whiney stuff which all got very, very boring.

I think that's a big part of it. His vocal style really grated on me up until 13 and Think Tank.
