I am getting f***ed off with all this shit about "England" supporters causing trouble "for the second night in a row".

This so called trouble is the action of a few drunken yobs (who probably don't even really follow football and have probably jumped on the bandwagon anyway) and a heavy handed police force who feel the need to baton charge every possible bystander including last night a TV crew.

What is wrong with the media in this country that they cant see that. It is given far too much publicity.

(Rant over).

It is funy that the police decided to enter 'the strip' just as all the bars close because people were 'spilling out in the street'. Since when was leaving a bar en masse an arrestable offence?

as i was saying to the old man the other day, does it really matter if a handful of lads want to throw garden furniture at one another? They are not actually hurting each other (not properly, it is not like they are stabbing one another), and it is normally in a square where there is only them and people who, though not involved, are not surprised and know how to leave if they want.

Why don't we just ignore them?

I'd rather SIT on the garden furniture but if they want to throw it then who cares?

im sure it wasnt the leaving of the bar that kicked off the trouble! If it aint ever the england fans fault, why does trouble follow the C**NTS everywhere. The funny thing is they probably know f*** all about footy!:tosser:

What I am saying is that in most reports you tend to hear the words 'and the trouble started when the Portugese police entered the strip as revellers spilled out onto the streets'.

Exactly what i was gonna say. Lets face it.. we do have far more than fair share of low-life scum in our country that 'follow' our national team abroad that are always gonna cause trouble. THe sad thing is, over 2000 hooligans we prevented from going yet we stil manage to cause trouble. I no we do also take a lot more fans to tournament than other countries which = a larger proportion of thugs, but we aint got our sorry reputation for no reason :censored: .

You are right to an extent but please go and watch the national team before you give such an opionated response. We do have a proportion of dickheads and it is not helped that Portugal is cheap to get to, the beer is cheap and it is hot. So on top of your traditional dickheads you end up with these foot soldiers (if you like), who react when somebody kicks it off. Now these tend to be young lads and due to the costs were not in Japan.

However another factor that has to be taken into account if that the local police forces can be very heavy handed, although until last night that had not really been the case in Portugal. The other factor is due to the fact that the English are regarded as the hooligans of football, locals and other teams feel it is their duty to have a pop at us. Example would be those lovely Turks in Brussels.

Ok fair point. I must admit i've not been to a tournament so i'm just going off what i've heard and seen on the telly, but i still believe we have a much larger proportion of thugs than other countries (other than perhaps Turkey). Stuff like singing about the War i also think is very thug-ish and ignorant as well as the booing of other teams national anthems which only England fanse seem to do.
May be i am being harsh, i do know there are obviously thousands of England fans who go out there to enjoy the atmosphere and the tournament, but it's not these fans that make the press and it does get embarrassing when, yet again, England fans causing trouble start making the headlines instead of the football taking place.

The press over here cream themselves when there is trouble it sells papers and tossers like Harry Harris and Rob Shepherd have made a career out of slagging off England fans.

There are still issues with xenophobic chants etc. However trust me the atmosphere and general vibe on Sunday was so different and better than that in Belgium 4 years ago.

I know the press are all over it like the cheap suits they wear, but none the less we have a bad reputation which will never go away and that one of the reasons why I've never been to any international tournaments and never will.

what I want to know is why doesnt any other european football hooliganism get reported over here ? Italy and Holland are far worse than us I think ???

What is unique with England is we are bad when it comes to international football. The Dutch have a lot of problems in club football but a very positive image when it comes to the national team. The Germans do have some problems when it comes to the national team, likewise the Italians, but certainly with Italy the Ultras seem more interested in club stuff. The Turks are the other really evil ones at all levels of football.

Just prior to the World Cup in Spain I was working in Holland at all the locall markets TEe Shirts and Union Jack shorts were freely available and mainly purchased by Dutch fans going to Spain, who in turn caused a lot trouble and spoke in English, so enhanceing (sp) our reputaion for trouble. It is very easy to judge our nations poor behaviour for the clothes worn and language spoken, without the arrests confirming these people are who they claim to be after passports have been checked,I remain with an open mind.

er . . the full Harris . . .If we where eliminated from European football wht would they go ? granted it wouldnt stop trouble but it would stop it at certain events

as for the club country issue . . . .the trouble we have seen thus far is undoubtedly inter club banter got out of hand and aggrovated by the police.

wait until the wrong English lads ( I wont call them fans) get sung at by spanish/portugese or any other International supporters. . . . then we'll see the trouble
