Trouble at the FA Cup Semi...

Brighton are not as bad. But equally Brighton can and have been serious trouble makers. Anyone who has followed the Albion knows that. Not every week, but at certain games like Wolves away this season. Millwall do attract trouble but then Spurs west ham and Chelsea have over the years been far worse than millwall but that does not make a story that will sell.

Football hooligan stories always sell, people find them fascinating. Millwall fans wear their reputation as a badge of honour. The reason we hear more about Millwall fans getting involved in trouble than other teams, is because they do it more often than fans of other teams.

Really that is not right. Millwall have a poor away support compared to us and I was surprised to find out that in London Spurs are considered the worst, with west ham and chelsea not far behind. All Im saying is that an eye witness said on the radio that west ham were causing trouble with millwall today so they are both at fault if its true. I cant see why this is controversial.

Correct account.

The ironic thing about trouble in those days is that one of my memories of that game is just how ritual the "violence" was.Liverpool fans under attack from Juve fans lobbing broken bits of terracing at them did what 80's fans always did, they ran at them.
Running is what you did,it is a kids game, you run at them and they run away.If you find some fans that stand still you ignore them(for if you stop to hit them they are likely to hit you back.THIS IS TO BE AVOIDED)and run at those running away.
This is what happened.Liverpool fans were clearly seen ignoring Juventus fans standing their ground, unfortunately those fans in the bit sold on the black market to Juventus fans didn't understand the ritual and they ran to a dead end,a wall that gave way under the pressure.
Decent segregation, proper barriers and competent policing would have prevented the run from taking place.
Before you judge against Liverpool one question.
If you were under attack from opposition fans lobbing lumps of concrete at you from ZERO feet away and the local plod were just letting them do it. would you move away and hope they stop, run out of terracing and perimeter walls to break up or would you run them?

1. I have said if it is true that west ham were there. Please note the if but yes I do think it likely that this was organised hoolies.
2. I have heard racism at Brighton, have confronted someone who was racist at Brighton and was also at the last game at the Soldstone when someone threw a banana. It was not covered by the press. Racism at Brighton is also there because there are less ethnic minrities in Brighton. At Millwall yes they overtly chant but then go to school and the pub with people of other races.
3. Millwall is a story and the press will have gone for a trouble story. There was trouble at Spurs v Chelsea at Wembley recently. I know, a friend was there. No press coverage at all.
4. I am not condoning trouble but just asking for fairness. If west ham fans have caused trouble, it is an if, but if they have then they are to blame as well

If you watch the video-it was thrown from the AWAY SEATS in the South Stand aimed at Mike Small, a Brighton player-by a guy in glasses,if my memory serves..........

I heard that on 606. What he said was that he had heard rumours that West Ham and/or Chelsea were there. He didn't say they were there. It's believable and would make sense but there is no evidence yet.

WCP - you're clearly a man in the know. Am I right in thinking Millwall used to team up with our frim at some of the more feisty Brighton away games around the turn of the decade. I'm certain there was Millwall with Brighton at Southend on the day that Kuipers was subbed at half time.

I'm not in the know at all. Ive just followed Brighton for a very long time and I have no idea about that game. I had friends at the game (certainly not trouble makers) and they told me about serious trouble that day in the ground.

I have been at two games which you claim there was serious trouble at....and have seen or heard nothing on both occasions. Just saying.

Wolves is one that you always use as one of your examples to 'prove' your point. And yet you weren't there.

You weren't there today either, yet still come out with the same old crap about how it wasn't the 'Wall, and anyway Brighton fans are just as bad.

Southend game a couple of years ago? The trouble was front page in the Argus. A Southend fan was stabbed on the sea front and I also know this through someone from Southend that I know. The Cup final I was not there but have heard there was and in fact someone on this thread has confirmed it. Agreed, its taken a huge tangent this thread.

West stand south terrace and Team.
Brighton team: Ormerod , Humphrey, Tuck, Minton, Johnson, Morris, Storer, Mayo , Baird, Maskell, McDonald (inj. sub Reinhelt). Subs: Martin, Hobson, Reinhelt

So no Mike Small he left in 1991

Your memory is very poor.

At the sent off player.

And it was some throw to reach Mike Small who was in Ireland at the time having left Brighton six years earlier

Fighting at wembley ???!!!

God I wish Maggie was around to sort this out !!!

I thought we were talking about the Millwall play off game in 1991,i don't recall any Bannana throwing at the Doncaster match, but i remember Brighton fans fighting in Hove Park in 1997 with Cardiff 400-500 involved,it seemed to go on for about an hour, also trouble before the game as well..

Yep. I remember talking to some LFC fans (not trouble makers) who were at the match. They told me that many LFC fans were jumping over the wall to get into the area where the LFC fans were, because they were amongst Juve fans that were, as you say pelting them. Many LFC fans in their own area moved towards that wall to help them over. So that area became very congested and the pathetic breeze block wall collapsed. Footage showed the violent Juve fans, who even after the tragic incident, and after the match went ahead, were still causing trouble. A sad event, and unfortunately the Juve fans only have themselves to blame.
