I trust Russell mainly because of what he got out of our players last season. If we're honest, the midfield/strikers that finished the season was an absolute holocaust of a side. Fraser, Loft, Owusu, Andrew - jesus there is some real shit in there. But Russell managed to get 6 wins out of 8 from that mob, so I've got faith in him.

I just thought we'd be going after a higher calibre of player than we are. Ok, Russell may get even better results (as in theory, what we have brought in will at the very least be better than what we released). But I'm just a bit disappointed as I thought we'd be getting some proven quality in, and we haven't really. There is only so much Russell can do by himself, and I'm sure we won't be down the bottom as we were last year. But similarly no matter how good the manager is, you need some decent players too, and what we've got looks very mid-table/bottom-half to me. Harding will be abused by the fans, and having just got rid of Mayo I thought we might have some time without that. Ricketts is just a lump - if that's a "different option" then fair enough, but I'd rather have some footballers.

That's not "constant moaning" in my opinion. It's a view of the standard of players we're signing/looking at. I may be right, hopefully I'll be wrong, but surely the point of the site is to say it.

What poor players has he brought in so far? These 3 are on trial so nothing to lose and bar Tunnicliffe the rest have been on freebies with good reputations, not a lot to moan about in my view

These threads make me laugh. Surely the whole point of triallists is that you take a look at them. If they sign then presumably Slade thinks they are good, if not no harm done.

Ricketts, if fit, would be a useful addition to the squad, end of.

Harding has a touch of class about him when on the ball and I would be glad to see him come back. I don't think he is as unpopular as some on here think. I saw him play a couple of games for Southend and Reading last season and he played very well. And don't forget that's a Reading side pushing for promotion out of the Championship, and in Coppell a manager that so many on here seem to rate.

Know nothing about Spiller at all, but clearly our midfield still needs a lot of strengthening.

If we learned nothing else last season, we established that going back is not the way to go forwards. Harding may be a decent player but not sure we should get him back at the club.

Virgs was good once put in his correct position...

I always thought Harding would make a far better left winger than left back......good to have that option as well as cover for LB. Dont know anything about Spiller and Ricketts would prob be a reasonable squad player....back up to Forster, Murray if he stays and maybe Dickinson as well as Davies who i reckon could have a good season. Id be prety happy if we had 5 strikers of that quality.

Is it actually possible to get three WORSE trialists than these? Excluding Wayne Henderson that is.

Now we've got money and a new chairman we seem to be going after much shitter players than we ever did before. My prediction of a BOTTOM-HALF finish next season is looking good.

You need psychological help... so negative...

Whether we sign Ricketts or not, him just being here suggests to me Murray is definately leaving.

If Ricketts did join shortly we could have Forster, Davies, Hart, Dickinson (apparently), Murray and Ricketts.

Surely we don't need that many strikers, we're not bloody Chelsea.

I think we also have to ask ourselves is if Nicky can get through a whole season. I suspect that this is his last, at least at this level and Russ may be looking at this more and less whether Murray is going.

For what its worth my thinking is If we buy Dickinson then Murray will be sold as the money from Murray will pay for Dickinson

Didnt like harding when he was with us before...and have boo'd and played the pantomine games when ever he's been against us, but since he's left Imho he's improved and to be honest he's a good utility player for left back or midfield.

Saw Harding on sky at the back end of last season for reading, cant remember who it was against, but he looked one of the best players on the pitch....stronger and driving forward with good defence splitting passing.

I'd snap him up......Im not fussed about whats been and gone...brighton lad..made a mistake by leaving but id have done the same in his position.

Welcome home dan

Agree 100%... and I saw that Reading game too...

If you were employed as Slade's advisor who would you suggest we sign?

Someone who has some sense.
Harding would walk into pretty much any team as a left back, and people having a go at the trialists being brought in need to get back to reality. Who do people expect us to have on trial? I'd say fewer than 10% of trialists end up getting a deal anywhere. As already mentioned it costs nothing to get them in and you never know you may uncover a rough diamond.

Having a look at someone who's played for England has to be better than last year when we looked at someone who played with me for Market Harborough.

I know he's been shit ever since but still.

All three are good to have a look at,,,Harding has proved he can play at championship level well enough...Ricketts, ok on the face of it looks a bit dodgy, but if Slade can get half the player he was a few years ago, could be a real gem..Spiller was very highly rated some time ago and has had some real bad luck with injurys, however he is still young enough to put them behind him and he also could be a bit of a find..I think its quite an impressive trio, to have a look at and if only one of them, all of them or none of them sign, no harm done.So why all the negitive stuff, im more impressed with RS all the time.
