Just a slight warning, I've a large oak tree at the bottom of our garden which a few years ago I had cut back at no small cost. In 5 years it grew back to it's previous size, the cut back seems to spur the growth of the tree. They do grow back quick.

Apparently, Oak trees take 300 years to grow, then live for 300 years, and then to gradually die for the next 300.

I had 2 Oaks (front gdn) and 2 Birch (back gdn) reduced a year or so ago, all timber removed from site for a bit less than £2000.
I googled "tree surgeons" and found a price comparison site and went from there.
