It's also ultra touristy, expensive, full of twats and has zero in the way of culture. And considering how big it is, it doesn't really have that much to offer. Nice beaches, one or two nice cities, the Great Barrier Reef (superb, admittedly), a big rock in the middle and a load of desert. Considering it's roughly the same size of Europe, I don't think that is that impressive.

Australia = most over-rated country in the world.

i agree, didn't go much on australia at all,got 2 brothers living out there, wouldn't go back, maybe for the cricket, but not as a tourist

i loved america,in particular california, alot of people don't like america, but the ones who say that have never been, americans are so much nicer than aussies too

best city i've visited is montreal, for the grand prix, brilliant, north american, but with an european feel, canadians are great too

Funny this, isn't it? It is so true, yet for some reason the Americans get the bad rep and England seems to have this odd thing about Australians being great.

im looking to go travelling, and work abroad for 6months/a year and need some inspiration! Which areas of the world have you been travelling in? and did you work whilst on your travels?

Any tips? ideas?

Never been, and you'd probably need a fair bit of money to do it, but what about Japan? Think Marty McFly did that, along with South Korea, last year, and I'm sure he loved it. I've always wanted to go. A Westernised country, but completely different from home, culturally speaking. A bit less obvious than Australia/NZ. Plus you can still get some decent deals as they're desperate to attract tourism back after the earthquakes (don't be put off by that, I wouldn't be if I had the money at the moment).

I'm currently teaching English as a second language (TEFL) in Bogota, Colombia. It's a great job and although Bogota is slightly limited in some aspects i.e. public transport, Colombia is an incredible country.

I'm in the process of setting up my own company out here starting next year. I'm always on the look out for British/Native speaking teachers even if you are Brighton fans!

Hi mate, I've been travelling twice, and unless you're thinking about going away for a year, don't bother working. 6 months, get in about 5/6 countries at least, combine it with intense stuff and laid back bits too...just pick the right balance between Asia/Western countries (cheap/expensive) and save as hard as you can before you go...therefore meaning you have the best 6 months of your life, without having to work.

Do you have any thoughts about teaching English as a second language that you want to share?
How do you approach it, do you work on grammar, constructing sentences, increasing word vocabulary, or is it more basic than that?

It's not a city you to go for technology or well structured cities, the nature side of the country is absolutely incredible. Very few tourists here in the grand scheme of things so you see Colombia for what it really is, not a tourist money making machine.

Depends on what level you're teaching. I teach at all types of companies and all different levels so it varies. Grammar is obviously extremely important but also quite boring. I use plenty of articles, videos and business english to improve their level.

PM me if you want more info, there's plenty of ways to teach people!

Japan is the dogs bollocks! A must visit. I know they do (or, at least did) do a working holiday visa. Look into it :)

Having a pretty good time working and travelling New Zealand at the mo' - My third favourite country (after Japan and Vanuatu). I agree with previous views on Oz - It's really not all that.

Oddly i love England so much even if i do slag it off. Cost of living far outways what you earn.

And i just missed home to much. Barcelona is beautiful but i couldn't live anywhere else but England.

So you were homesick? Or you hated Spain?

I'm an EFL teacher too, currently in Vietnam but I'm thinking of moving to Colombia next year. I've been before as a tourist and loved it. I'll PM you later with some questions about the EFL market there.

Yeah I know. I've been to Ecuador and intended to go to Colombia but it never happened. I really, really regret it as I met so many people in South America who all said Colombia was the best country there. Need to go, soon.

Very true, I ended up spending time in Pai. Lovely place just don't drink to much the night before the bus there!

Ah Pai went there back in 93, good little town and amazing first thing in the morning surrounded by the mountains. As for Thailand as a whole it has changed a lot in the last few years, more money around and higher expectations as a society., and it is very easy to get around not much of a challenge.

Sent from my bed in my garden shed !
