Pretty much all of Brighton and much of Hove would be within a three mile radius and all of Brighton and most of Hove would be within five miles

For information fom Hove station to Falmer is 5.5 miles by bike. I've cycled it plenty of times.

That's Hove, 7 Dials, Preston Circus, Upper Lewes Rd, Lewes Rd.

That must mean Worthing is only 4 miles from Hove.

I didnt mentiopn Falmer I said Brighton you know that team we support. who are now domiciled in Falmer.

You also never mentioned Worthing either, asking why BN12 didn't feature.
Worthing is BN 13.

As I said it was always ACCEPTED as being 10 miles from Brighton not that it definitely was. My mother lived near Worthing Station and she was in BN11. Sister in law lives in Durrington now known as Lower Salvington and she is BN13 which is not Worthing centre. Try again !!

Blimey, I've cycled to Hove Rec from Coldean many times and I've always reckoned that to be about 3 to 4 miles. I'm about a mile out.
Those were interesting stats though, so about half of fans live in Brighton and Hove, that does surprise me, I thought it would be much more than that.

Aren't we discussing getting to Falmer/Amex though? What's Worthing to Brighton got to do with Durrington to Falmer?

That makes sense. NOT.

Once again an interesting thread is derailed.

Better to derail an interesting thread about transport to/from the AMEX than to write:-

'Oh I'm sorry I misread the title of the numbers and got that wrong, as you were'.

One silly idea that I hope they do not repeat was to stop motorcyclists leaving until after the first bus to the racecourse p&r. This resulted in a swarm of up to 20 bikes (a fair few had pillion passengers) all leaving at the same time rather than a steady trickle. I’m not sure what the reasoning behind this was but it did not help the first bus get out any quicker. If the bikes do get in the way a quick bit of stewarding to let that bus out would have sufficed, as it was three stewards were deployed holding the bikes back.

Probably less than you might imagine. There are some innovative solutions around. e.g.

http://www.southernrailway.com/sout.../hove-station-gets-double-deck-cycle-parking/

I think there's plenty of space dotted about the Amex where more cycle storage could go if needed. I think we'd have to get hundreds of extra people cycling before space for storage became an issue. They don't necessarily need to take up parking spaces of course.

There are already more cyclists than there are official cycle racks. The double racks you posted like they have at Brighton and Hove stations are really good. They are a lot more secure than the ones you can only lock one wheel into which half the racks at the stadium are. The reason why they are terrible is because a large number of bikes have quick release wheels and you need to lock the frame not the wheel. The citys Boris bikes seem to have hit off well so far and that could also be another option as they are situated in the university car parks and are an option rather than a bus. For the majority of fans it wont be an option but i think the club could easily encourage a few hundred more to take the cycle option if it were more spaces to lock up securely. Maybe wishful thinking though.

I also meant to add fastest by car you cant actualy cycle the route you used since the bypass is sans cycles which I think the point of within 10 miles was about.

I don't think there's anything stopping you taking a cycle onto the bypass: you'd have to be some kind of nutter to want to do it, but it's an A road not a motorway.
