Personally, I would like Barber to make a public announcement that none of our first team players will be sold in this transfer window, regardless of offers, so that all the speculation can stop.
Then we can go and buy the next 16 year old Chilean boy wonder midfielder for £2.79 and the 18 year old Peruvian winger for 6 pints of Harveys and have our replacements lined up for the inevitable sales in the Summer.

Oh and not forgetting a striker, who we fail to sign on the last day of the transfer window.
Paul Barber quote from November:

"We don't expect it to be a busy window and we are very happy with the squad we have. We we can and where it is pragmatic to, we will have our options but we are not expected to do too much.”

And in December:
Brighton CEO Paul Barber is not expecting the club to be "crazy busy" in the January transfer window.

And just before Christmas:

Brighton are confident of keeping hold of Alexis Mac Allister, although chief executive Paul Barber admits there was interest in the midfielder before the World Cup and there will be plenty more after his triumph in Qatar.

Maybe not unequivocal, but certainly looks like sales will be resisted unless stupid money comes in play.

Romano has tweeted that an unnamed premier league club has approached Sassuolo about signing Davide Frattesi. A 23 CM who can play as an AM and is a current Italian international.

If we were to loose either Mac or Moises then…

have no doubt that we are probably asking about him. from what the Italian press say though, this feels like another Nunez situation, as the apparently the player only has eyes for Roma at present

Frattesi would be an amazing signing and the most likely ‘replacement’ for Caicedo or MacAllister leaving. He’s well known to De Zerbi and this is what could swing the deal.
Roma are also keen on him but I expect we can go bigger wages wise and fee wise.

I hear the phrase "stupid money" in respect of Caicedo and Mac Allister, but where do people see that threshold?
If I put myself in TB's shoes, it has to be north of 90 million for it to happen in January, as I hope we have replacements lined up for the summer, when I expect either one or both of them to go.
30 million plus for Trossard in the summer, higher in January?

Well, I suppose we Brighton fans are more entitled/qualified to speculate than other clubs' fans or uninformed pundits who Tweet stuff like '"we/they should go for Caicedo/Mac Allister from Brighton for £XXM" (£XXM being way below reason!)
I would think a straight cash up front-no-buggering-around-with-installments or taking one of our flops/hopefuls in PX offer of £70M would probably start the conversation.
The price for Trossard a tad optimistic IMHO.

What bollox that Liverpool are talking to Brighton ? or bollox the talks will result in a £60m agreement?
- I suspect the former is probably likely, the latter unlikely - would be surprised if TB will let him go for under £70 in this window.
Mainly the latter I suppose - although all under the umbrella view that Tw*tter is mostly bolleaux!

The way I see it ...

I think we'll make at least one major sale in January

In terms of players in ....

Goalie still looks a risk to me. The fact that Steele was below Button as 2nd choice when he was here, combined with some very mixed cup performances says to me, we've been pushing our luck, and to be fair getting away with it, for a while. If Rushworth or Scherpen won't be ready to put serious pressure on Bob in the next 12 months, I think we should buy someone in.

RB. Fine

CB. If Van Hecke was going to make it, he'd have featured this season. We can't get Colwill almost certainly. Webby misses a lot of football. No academy players hammering on the door. Veltman and Dunk priceless to us. A LCB is our most likely signing. I don't think we'll wait till summer

Left Back again looks like a risk. We're fine as long as Pervis stays fit etc, but I don't see the academy cavalry coming to our rescue in this position any time soon. March and Colwill could fill in, in a 4 but would be obviously out of position and be doing no more than just filling in.

Centre mid. I think we're ok as long as we don't sell. If we do, I think we should loan in. In this position I can see us being in a better spot once Moder, Koslowski and a number of others on loan return from injury or mature. We just need to buy some time. As for Gilmour, we'll find out tomorrow if RDZ rates him.

Similarly a bit further forward, Buenotte, Enciso and Sarmiento will aid the transition away from the Lallana, Gross, Trossard era, but we might need some short term cover as these players are seriously young.

Up front. For about the 7th window in a row, we're desperate for a striker as, has been said, we're alarmingly reliant on players who are injury prone, undercooked, not going to make it, or likely to leave. We've lots of loan strikers out there, but none scoring. I'm expecting the normal sorry transfer window tale of near misses and another 1 in 10 punt on a teenager

I’d imagine his quotes from 2021, 2020,2019 if not longer were similar as well

Why would ‘the reds being willing to spend…’ a figure that wouldn’t buy his left teste make a transfer more likely?
Has he even driven past Anfield and dreamed? (Naturally on his own time and not official club away business)

Steele's never let us down. McGill is probably better than you think - wouldn't be the end of the world.

Rushworth should be ready next season - although a year in the Championship or abroad would probably be better for his development

So were Pele, Rooney, Michael Owen, Trevor Francis, et al. So is Caicedo.

Desperate? 26 goals in 15 PL matches. More 'would like' rather than 'desperate'. Also .... cough .... Ferguson.

Oh no!! The voice of realism

Anyone who thinks there is going to be multiple incomings is deluded. We have a good supply line of talent

Transfer windows are dull affairs these days. RDZ hasn’t won a game without the lively Mitoma in the side, without him we seem flat and clueless ie Forest which is a worry.

On the Keeper thing, it really is an inefficient use of available money to be spending significant transfer funds and wages on a back up. In 5 and a half seasons of PL football, we’ve had to play the back-up keeper twice, haven’t we?

It’d only be worth splashing out if Sanchez was being sold.
