Surely a couple of players heading out on loan like sanders.

We signed our striker already so doubt we will be in for another. I’d like propper to go and a stronger centre mid but this is never happening.

Left back we have sufficient, maybe address upgrading Bernardo in January.

Although after last Wednesday there's been no real need to hang onto any of them.

Just logged onto William Hill to see what excitements there are today in the world of the nags and the first thing I see is that Tom Rogic is 5/4 to sign for the Albion.

Personally, I want a powerhouse, not another shorthouse.

I honestly think our squad is good enough this season, new striker or not.

What I really like about this window is our building for future seasons. Eneme Ella, Zeqiri, Weir, Khadra, and hopefully Karbownik & Moder too.

Some real potential talent there.

Aye, they’ll all be great in the Championship!

If you think we have a team and a level of football on the pitch worthy of relegation this season then I respecfully disagree.

That news has one potential upside:-

I really don't see the point in spending a fortune on a last minute panic buy, relying on funds from an incredible generous owner who probably doesn't have them at the moment and risking the financial future of the club. We do have a good squad with depth as well as a talented u23 squad with players who could step up and only 12 games to play before January, that's less than a game a week. If we are in trouble at that point or have suffered injuries then we can buy if the right players are available, it's less than 3 months away.

I really don't think we need to worry about relegation, two of the spots are already taken by West Brom and Fulham and the other one will be taken by one of the other poor sides like Burnley. We've already seen we're miles better than Newcastle and when we play other sides at that level, we'll show it again.

To be honest, this season is one just to get through and be in the league still at the end of it. It's a bit of a freak as we're seeing with the current scorelines, a one off, as Danny Baker said it will be looked back on like the seasons during the war years. Hopefully come next pre-season the world will be in a different place, fans will be allowed back in grounds and we can look to spend again and build on what we have.

I almost agree with everything here, but I wouldn't rely too much on that third relegation place being taken by Burnley. Dyche has pulled them round before. Yes, we were miles better than Newcastle on that day, but other teams will see how we played against them and learn.

But we still come down to that question of squad depth. The squad is deep everywhere except up front. And however often GP talks about improving the players we have, if the players aren't there, you can't improve them. If (God forbid) Connolly gets injured on Ireland duty and Maupay picks up a knock in training, then who plays against Palace on October 18? Ali J? Trossard? Go with a false 9? Throw Zeqiri in for his debut? Ben White up top? Even Bielsa would struggle with that one.

I agree. And think its a big risk.
PS: If either of these things happened imminently in next 10 days or so - they'd presumably lean into the EFL window for a loan but its not ideal.
Izquierdo's return looks interesting though.

Can I just confirm, are you suggesting Izquierdo as a potential striker?

If you think we have a team and a level of football on the pitch worthy of relegation this season then I respecfully disagree.

Worthy of relegation is the bottom 3 after 38 games.

If everybody stayed fit and we could sort out self inflicted errors and some poor defending, we should be good enough, but all of it depends on others too..... if all around strengthen and you don’t, you may find the bar to survival is much higher and maybe even 40 points isn’t enough, as has happened numerous times before.

Defensive errors persist, Maupay long term injured, teams confidence dips etc......and others all buy well, you simply cannot say with any confidence we won’t be ‘worthy’ of relegation. If we finish on 40 points in third bottom, we will be.

fwiw I made the comment as a joke hence the exclamation mark.

Let's hope not as seen many posts on here forgetting how he plays. Plenty of pace, nothing down the outside, cuts inside to unleash a shot that 8 out of 10 times goes out for throw in on far side. The odd screamer is not enough and wouldn't trust him on a one on one. He has a part to play as maybe an impact sub but he's going to the answer to our striker need.

I had to ask as the growing trend seems to be suggesting playing wingers as utility strikers, if you included Izquierdo with Trossard and Alireza as our backup forwards you’d have to worry about their combined 13 goals in 110+ senior appearances for the club.
